Gift of freedom

FREEDOM is what it’s about – Easter Sunday and Araw ng Kagitingan, which we celebrate and commemorate this year on consecutive days.

Our soldiers who suffered in the Bataan Death March during World War II, just like Jesus Christ, endured mental agony and physical torment. Their spirit and bodies were broken, but their hope remained, displaying fortitude and holding on to the conviction that their sacrifice would have meaning.

Every police chief in the province, led by then Provincial Director Sr. Supt. Rosueto Ricaforte, crowed about improved peace and order under their respective watch, citing lower statistics for specific crimes.

We focus on Palaro.

What struck us was the guv’s statement that this Palaro (and no other) "will be the benchmark" of all Pambansang Palaros from here on.

If that boast came from a run-of-the-mill politician, we won't buy it.

THIS year, my Visita Iglesia group started from St. Peter’s Parish along Commonwealth Avenue, Q.C., to St. Joseph Church in Alaminos City, Pangasinan.

From St. Peter’s Parish, we stopped next at St. Raymond de Penafort in Mangatarem, then to St. Joseph The Worker in Aguilar, St. Andrew in Bugallon, San Isidro in Labrador, St. Peter The Martyr in Sual, The Holy Child in Mabini, The Carmelite Monastery in Burgos and, finally, at St. Joseph in Alaminos City.
