Battling the drug devil

DRUG devils (why do we call them ‘lords’ when there is absolutely nothing noble nor sacred about dealing illegal drugs?) are becoming bolder and more evil. They no longer distinguish between adults and minors. They are now luring even children, particularly those in the primary school age, into addiction.

Our young are very vulnerable, they can easily be distracted, enticed into an “adventure”, and get hooked on prohibited substances. Once addicted, the consequences could be fatal or a submission to criminal acts. There are very few worse ways to an end of innocence.

Unsolicited advice

By Ermin Garcia Jr.

THE brouhaha over the management of the Dagupan seafood processing plant was to be expected. There are vested interests and there are vested interests in enterprise projects funded by government.

Personally, I’ve always maintained that government should never run a business venture – not the national, not the local. I had opposed the idea of the city government dipping its fingers into the seafood processing plant because sure as the sun will rise from the east, that facility will become a monstrous wasted white elephant once crony-crocs are appointed to operate it.

Pangasinan’s rich history

By Gonzalo Duque

LAST Thursday was the 40th day of Kuya Ado's (the late Dr. Salvador T. Duque) passing.

Many of his friends were wondering why we did not deliver a eulogy during his wake. But in his last two nights at the LNU multi-purpose hall, we made a very brief speech, when we stood up and said, "Dinner is ready." Smiling University of Luzon president Macky Samson praised our “short speech” and said that was “a great speech.” Panangan la e.

Election shockers & all, let’s go NBA for a change

By Al S. Mendoza

THE May 10 election is history.

Noynoy Aquino winning isn’t a shocker.  Noynoy has always been the presidential front-runner from Day One.

But Jojo Binay winning shocks us all.  He was a dark horse (no pun intended), but capturing the VP from Mar Roxas is the Story of The Year.

PHILIPPINE PESO – AMERICAN DOLLAR EXCHANGE RATE

By +Oscar V. Cruz JCD

There was a time the American dollar had a fixed exchange rate of two Philippine pesos. Thus it was when the equivalence was observed for decades with neither questions asked nor hesitations made. Then it came to pass that a dollar became equals to four pesos, to seven pesos and so on. And time came when the exchange rate between exactly the same American dollar and exactly the same Philippine pesos became anybody’s guess.
