Where to, garbage of Dagupan?
NOT an enviable job, that of Teddy Villamil, officer-in-charge of the Waste Management Division of Dagupan. As the commercial and educational center of the province, the coastal city is a bustling urban area where tons of garbage are expectedly generated. It has its successes in some of the 31 barangays in terms of the implementation of policies on waste segregation at source, but the bigger problem is the city does not have a sanitary landfill as required of all local governments under the law. The existing dumpsite, meanwhile, is perennially under risk of spilling over.

I accuse Mayor Lim

By Ermin Garcia Jr.
I WISH to thank Mr. Francisco J. Mejia for taking to time to write and mail a letter to me to express his thoughts on the worsening state of corruption at the Dagupan City hall.
He wrote, “I was wrong with the impression that at last we have the Mighty 8", very disgusting, very shameful, for 30 pcs of silver, they sold their souls. "What profits a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul,” he added.

This ambassador behaves like a beast

By Jun Velasco
"The height of a man is measured from the neck up." — Carlos P. Romulo
SHROUDED by the eloquence and articulateness of two stellar speakers (soon-to-be Senator Joey de Venecia III and unorthodox doctor Robin Navarro) a bombshell was dropped by a former staff of a United Arab Emirates Embassy at a breakfast forum at the Aloha Hotel last week.

Thank you, Rep. Gina

By Gonzalo Duque
MANY do not know how the "book of the century," the history of Pangasinan circa 20l2, is being done.
We know. Of course, you know that we know.
Kasi, magawagawa yay pare Jun V. Over a few rounds of beer, he got us on our feet to write about the history idea on this page.
We were raising a point then, a valid one, why we were celebrating Pangasinan Day on the late Speaker Eugenio Perez's birthday. While we have all the highest esteem for the late statesman, we thought there ought to be a sound reason for using his birthday as Pangasinan Day.

Viloria & PacMan: In different zones today

By Al S. Mendoza
WHILE Brian Viloria is still probably in Cloud 9 today, Manny Pacquiao must still be possibly twisting in the wind.
That’s because Viloria’s recent victory has reestablished him as the world’s king of flyweights.
The manner by which Viloria scored his victory on Sunday (May 13) was even really a class act.
For eight rounds, Viloria virtually battered Omar Nino Romero.
In the ninth, Viloria put an end to the one-sided brawl with a rain of punches, sending Romero on the verge of knockout.

Drug users in Alcala Police Station

By Bebot Villar

Philippines, My Philippines

By +Oscar V. Cruz, JCD
PHILIPPINES was a dear and endearing Country. It had a bountiful nature, a healthy environment. The plentiful and productive seas surrounded its many islands and islets. The clear and clean skies were its mysterious and delightful roofing. The Filipinos were loving and lovable. They cherished their religious fiestas, enjoyed their songs and dances. Thus it was that Filipinos sang “I love my own, my native land, Philippines, my Philippines…” The children, the youth and the adults all knew the song and repeatedly sang it with gusto and pride.

Behind the scene after the Viloria-Romero fight

By Jesus A. Garcia Jr.
YOU and I saw the May 13 fight. You watched it on TV while I watched it in the flesh at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City. The result was a devastating, vengeful and sweet conquest for Filipino world champion Brian Viloria over his arch nemesis Omar Nino Romero of Mexico. Devastating because we saw how the World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight (112 lbs.) defending champion Viloria pummelled the visiting Mexican with much gusto from the third up to the ninth round to score a technical knockout. Vengeful because the fellow from Guadalajara, Jalisco unquestionably defeated Viloria during their first encounter and their second meeting was a no-contest. Both fights were held in America.

High spirits!

By Emmanuelle
AND, suddenly, there she was, walking past my sprawled self, like she had never left us! Forty-eight days after she died, eight days after we gave her a fairly decent send-off to heaven on her body’s fortieth day on earth. Suddenly, there she was!
Previous to her walking pass and back into my life, it was like she made a soundless announcement of her coming, like trumpets and cymbals and bells all clamoring but all agreeing to be tremulously quiet, muted even. Like Yehey! She’s coming; but shhhhh!

More profit in tiger shrimp culture

By Roberto Garcia
THE culture of tiger shrimp (locally known as sugpo or bingalo) was at the height of its popularity during the 80’s and 90’s until deadly diseases caused mass mortality and eventually huge investment losses.
Though there are still some engaged in the farming of this jumbo shrimp in Pangasinan, the production is still far below compared years ago. Nevertheless, SEAFDEC (Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center) Aquaculture Department, a prominent international aquaculture research facility and where I worked for my first job, has provided some innovative techniques on how to increase shrimp production based on their studies.
