ALAMINOS CITY—Every citizen must help address global warming.

Thus said Mayor Hernani Braganza during the celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day here last Monday where he called on all residents to face and deal with the grim reality of global warming.

“Anywhere in the world, global warming is now a reality,” he told more than 500 city government employees, barangay officials, heads of various government agencies and students.

NEW FERTILIZER SUBSIDY SCHEME

LINGAYEN-After the 2005 fertilizer scam was blown sky-high, mayors do not seem inclined to support another fertilizer subsidy scheme being touted by the Arroyo government.

“It’s not negotiable” was the quick retort from the governor and the mayors.

Governor Amado Espino Jr. and the mayors said as much during the meeting with officials of the Department of Agriculture to discuss the mechanics of Executive Order No. 753.

LINGAYEN—The provincial board has approved a resolution authorizing Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to enter into a seven-year term loan with the LandBank of the Philippines even if the projects for which the amount will be allocated have yet to be identified.

The loan will be using as collateral the P79.2 million share of Pangasinan in the unreleased 2001 and 2004 Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA).

LINGAYEN–A task force headed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group is set to file a case for murder against those involved in the slaying of a lady official of the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (Cenpelco) on the night of June 11 in Barangay Dumpay 2 Basista town.

However, Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez still refused to divulge the names of the suspects until the cases against them had been filed and warrants for their arrest have been served.

FOUR whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) - more commonly known as butanding, toki or tawiki - became adventurous and again swam through Dagupan’s waters Monday night.

        Dr. Westly Rosario, center chief of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Dagupan City, told The PUNCH, that the gentle gigantic creatures were sighted swimming “merrily” about 100 to 200 meters away from the shoreline in Bonuan Binloc.

It was Christmas in June for pupils of a city public school in Dagupan City.

Two multinational firms and one local company donated more than 1,000 science books to primary students in Dagupan following representation made by Acting Mayor Belen Fernandez and two civic groups.

Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, Unilever Philippines and the CSI Group of Companies donated the books for the use of Grades III, IV, V and VI pupils of the East Central Elementary School.

LINGAYEN- Gigi Ocado of barangay Dulag here, one of the many victims of Typhoon Cosme that struck the province on May 18, is thankful, like most Pangasinenses are that Typhoon Frank spared them this time.

Ocado’s and her neighbors’ houses were destroyed by Typhoon Cosme last month.

“Kinabahan din kami dahil malakas ang ulan, pero nagpapasalamat kami at hindi malakas ang hangin di katulad nung nakaraang bagyo,” she said.

A barangay kagawad in Mayombo has denied any participation in the theft of a 75-KV transformer of the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) from a fallen electric post at the height of Typhoon Cosme.

As proof, Kagawad Robert Rebudal pointed to the incident report signed by Barangay Chairman Samuel Guadiz dated June 10, 2008 on the reported stolen transformer at Sitio Arzadon Compound in Mayombo.

ALAMINOS CITY—Forty five poor but deserving students have qualified for the City Comprehensive Scholarship Program (CESP) for school year 2008-2009.

Mayor Hernani Braganza handed the scholarship grants to the beneficiaries whom he described as the “creme de la creme” last Monday at the city hall grounds.

Solve or bust.

Senior Supt. Isagani Nerez, the provincial police director, is now implementing a stricter deadline policy for solving crimes. All police chiefs have a maximum of three months to solve crimes in their areas of jurisdiction or face removal from their posts.

The police chief in Malasiqui town was recently ordered to step down from his post as several crimes committed in the town continue to remain unsolved.
