THE cash-strapped city of Dagupan registered not only the lowest net income for the whole Ilocos region but it also registered one of the lowest net incomes (109th among 117 cities in the whole country.

The financial highlights of Local Government Units made public by the Commission on Audit showed that Dagupan’s net income of P18.9 million last year was among the lowest among all Philippine cities.

City hall insiders fear that the 2006 report will even be more dismal since collections of rentals at the new Malimgas Public Market and collection from enforcement of the city’s fishery code have not improved but expenses continue to mount.

Motorist Assistance Centers to stay yet- PD Purisima

LINGAYEN - Good news for motorists.

The Police Motorist Assistance Centers established for the Holy Week will remain for at least another week.

Acknowledging the valuable assistance that the centers provided, Police Provincial Director Alan Purisima said these centers will remain where they are until all the vacationers shall have returned to their respective places of origin.

All police stations in municipalities and cities were earlier directed by Purisima to put up motorist assistance centers so motorists who may require road directions or may experience mechanical problems could be assisted promptly.

He said that these centers will be there to continue the public service that effectively helped motorists and visitors since he start of the Holy Week.

Purisima echoed his earlier appeal to motorists to obey road signs and observe all traffic information for their own safety.  APE

DPWH brass backs motorcycle lane

LINGAYEN - The second highway engineering district officer hailed the call of Congress for the setting up a “motorcycle lane” along highways in order to ensure the safety of motorcyclists and their riders.

Expressing  full  support  for this  call, Highways District Engineer Rodolfo Dion said  a motorcycle lane along  the  national  highways would  minimize road accidents  since there are now more vehicles on  the highways.

Dion said an exclusive lane for motorcyclists along all highways throughout the country would minimize accidents that may even cost lives.

He confirmed that he submitted this proposal many years back but this was largely ignored by higher officials.

“We could protect the motorcycle-riding people who are prone to accident along the highways if they are given an exclusive lane where they would pass, separate from the lanes appropriated for four-wheeled vehicles,” he added.–APE
