Dagupan Helpline employs 7 handicapped professionals

THEIR physical disabilities have previously hindered them from landing jobs despite their university degrees and other skills.

But now, they are part of the workforce, thanks to the Dagupan City Citizens’ Helpline project.

Today, seven persons with disabilities (PWDs) man the city’s help desk, a 24/7 operation handling inquiries about city as well as emergencies.

Win some, lose some.

While many sectors have applauded the changes and innovations introduced in this year’s celebration of the Pista’y Dayat through the initiative of Governor Amado Espino Jr., there are some who are not too happy about the modifications.

Tiangge vendors complained that they earned less this year following there location of the trade fair from the capitol grounds to the area fronting the Pangasinan State University.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT), in coordination with the Dagupan City government, served 1,224 patients during its free medical, dental   and surgical mission on May 4 at the Dagupan People’s Astrodome, as part of the culminating activities of the Bangus Festival.

PLDT Pangasinan-Tarlac head Gerry Marquez thanked the local government and its medical arm, the City Health Office, for their support and cooperation.

Who would have thought that a boy who completed only primary school would one day be a successful businessman today?

With just basic educational background to lean on, he started out as a mere woodcutter, earning P2 a day.  His life started to turn for the better when he decided to try his luck as an entrepreneur initially by buying and selling balut.

It was in the early 1980s when he and wife Leonora started making puto with only P70 as starting capital. Their eldest child also helped them sell puto every weekend.

Super Region photo exhibit featured in Pista’y Dayat

1ST TOURISM AND TRADE EXP0

LINGAYEN—The first ever photo exhibit on the Super Region Program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo featuring the North Luzon Agri-business Quadrangle (NLAQ) opened at the lst Tourism and Trade Expo, a part of the province’s Pista’y Dayat celebration.

Put up by the Presidential Press Staff of the News and Information Bureau under the Office of the Press Secretary, the exhibit features photos of the various strides being undertaken by the government to realize the vision and objectives of NLAQ.

Undersecretary Anthony Golez, deputy presidential spokesperson, cut the ceremonial ribbon that opened the exhibit, along with Governor Amado Espino Jr., Vice Governor Marlyn Primicias-Agabas and other officials of the provincial government.

ALAMINOS CITY–Not banking solely on its booming tourism industry, courtesy of the Hundred Islands National Park, the city is harnessing its bamboo resources as another source of livelihood for the community.

The city government recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) for the adoption of the Engineered Kawayan, or E-Kawayan, a technology that converts bamboo poles into tiles for furniture and handicrafts.

Alaminos is the first local government unit to adopt the technology.

Sta. Barbara gets P20-M corn facility support

STA.BARBARA–Barangay Leet here, a self-sufficient agrarian reform community, will soon receive P20 million worth of post-harvest facility for corn from the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Albertini de Guzman, municipal administrator, said the project will include a warehouse and equipment for processing the corn harvest in this town where more than 600 hectares of land are devoted purely to yellow corn.
