Pangasinan, the healing province
By Gonzalo Duque
OK, folks, no political bombs this time.
We are about to hold the PRISAA games where politics has no place, so there.
Bakasyon muna ang atake, mga agagui!
Tamang-tama because we have two guests from San Francisco, California: Diosdado “Mac Mac” Macaraeg and his beautiful dentist wife the former Arlene Guinto of Pampanga.
Suffice it to say that their “guardian angel” Mita Macasaet who is in the U.S is continuously monitoring their Pangasinan visit.
The couple—MacMac, first president of Friends, Inc., and Arlene—incumbent president—are very much impressed with what they saw in the province.
Per their request we took them to our much heard–of healers including very competent doctors in Dagupan, Lingayen, Mangaldan and Mapandan.
What did they see?
Mac and Arlene were impressed with the improved physical appearances of our cities led by Dagupan (but definitely not its corrupt politics. Mac says Pangasinenses in California are well informed about local politics here because of the Sunday Punch, where our columnists are read like celebrities … urrhmm…)
Mac traces his roots to Malasiqui and Binalonan. The former Arlene Guinto, who is still a beauty in her 50’s, is from Pampanga.
First, we visited a Batangueño healer in Barangay Domalandan, Lingayen. His name, Robert Fresco, is casually named “Ala-e” probably because of his accent as he is from Batangas.
The moment you see him, you’d be struck by his astounding grasp of your ailment. Karakkel na pasyente to, agagui, and most of them claimed they were healed instantly.
We later met a “Dorn” method practitioner in Embarcadero, Mangaldan whose method—light massage of your back near the sciatic nerve—would result in quick or immediate and, he assures, lasting relief.
Eddie Quinto, the Dorn practitioner says once his trained fingers work on the patient’s back section around the sciatic nerve, the affected part is restored or re-aligned to its normal state instantly.
Mac Mac, who has a level-4 ailment in the lungs, told us after a 15-minute session with Quinto that he “was greatly relieved.”
Many residents of Mangaldan and neighboring towns including Dagupan City have testimonies to EQ’s healing. We heard he has loyal patients from St. Luke’s including doctors. High-ranking government officials go to him.
Mac and Irene also met with Dr. Robin B. Navarro at his Wellness and Rejuvenation Center along Arellano Street in Dagupan City. The couple was impressed with his “no-chemicals” treatment topped by his legendary RCB (Rapid Cellular Balancing) formula.
Dr. Navarro acquired fame with his famous 6 or more eggs a day and bulalo meals which, he said, resulted in their immediate and lasting treatment. Liezel Basa Inigo, a Manila Bulletin correspondent, has written many glowing articles about Navarro.
A gifted singer and Bible scholar, Navarro would even belt out gospel songs for his patients.
Dr. Navarro has built and developed a 20-hectare resort on the mountain top of Barangay Colisao, San Fabian.
On January 5, his son Jimboy and his pretty girlfriend were married at the resort itself with former speaker Joe de Venecia and wife, Rep. Gina, leading the ninongs and ninangs.
Our next healer was, hold your breath!—a Dr. Tranquilino Umang (Marcos), who is past 70 but looks 33 or younger.
From accounts of those in the know, Doc Umang of Barangay Nilombot was comatose at birth and “resurrected” after 40 days. At age 3 or 7, stories say, he could heal the sick with his mere touch. We didn’t get much info straight from him because, he said, it could spark attraction of patients from all directions at “mapapagod ako ng todo.”
Doc Umang simply held the pulse of Mac and this writer and, pronto!, he jotted down what he saw…like a medical prognosis…very accurate that jibed perfectly with the diagnosis of well known physicians.
Dr. Umang is a “super” in many respects because he has a “computer-like” mind and is able to see crystal clear ALL the entrails, the ailments, diseases—or dis-eases—in a person’s body. The pulse of his hand is like a laser and radar which can detect in almost 100 precision a person’s disease.
He can be reached at his residence-clinic at Barangay Nilombot, Mapandan town.
What matters is that our two Fil-Am visitors were not only convinced about the effectiveness of these Pinoy healers; they were “stunned by Dr. Umang’s genius.”
Because of this development, we contacted our two writer friends Jun Velasco and Cesar Carpio to undertake a book project to capture in an updated research and directory of Pangasinan’s healers earlier popularized by the late Tony Agpara of Rosales, Ramon “Jun” Labo Jr., and Alex Orbito.
Did you know that the late first Governor of Pangasinan Juan Alvear was a faith healer, being then the organizer and first president of the Filipino healers’ association?
Now, you know, and it’s worth studying and celebrating, don’t you think so, too?
