THE City Agriculture Office (CAO) of Dagupan has launched a field schooling for farmers aimed at cultivating more crop production in this city mainly known for its aquaculture industry.
The farmer field school, held once a week in Barangay Tebeng, one of the arable villages in the city, trains 30 crop raisers from the village and neighboring agribusiness-conducive barangays on increasing their yield, controlling pests and using organic farming technologies.
Among the trainers are representatives from the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center (ATI-RTC), the project implementers, and CAO.
“To encourage experiential learning, a thousand square meter lot will be apportioned to five parcels where the farmers, also grouped into five, will apply their assigned treatment technology,” said CAO agricultural technologist Marjorie Villanueva
The field schooling, which started October 4 and scheduled to end February 2013, is geared towards attaining food security for Dagupeños as well as ecological sustainability and poverty alleviation. (CIO)
