SOME 20,000 children from Dagupan are expected to join the 3rd Dagupan City Children’s Congress, sponsored by the Department of Education (DepEd) and its partner CSI Group of Companies, slated October 2 to 4 at the CSI Stadia.
The three-day event, a yearly activity initiated by Dagupan City Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez, president and chief executive officer of CSI Group of Companies, highlights the celebration of the Children’s Month in Dagupan.
Dr. Leizel Cancino, program education supervisor of the City Schools and designated coordinator of the three-day congress, said Dr. Teresita Velasco, DepEd Regional Director, has been invited to keynote the event.
She said aside from showcasing their skills and talents in academics, sports and other wholesome activities, the participants will be oriented on how to safeguard their environment.
Speakers are expected to talk about sustainable living, specifically on a new technology that could convert plastics and wrappers that are non- biodegradable into useful materials for the homes and the communities, said Fernandez.
There will also be a Group Poster Making Contest with environmental protection as the theme.
Activities include the Festival of Talent wherein the winners will represent the city in a national event, the Academic Olympics, Search for Junior Master Chef, Bulilit Pop Idol Singing Contest for the elementary level, sandwich making for mother and child tandem, teacher-principal tandem in Fruit Salad Competition, and dance competitions for teachers and students.
The sports events include chess, three-on-three basketball, and badminton.
