SAN CARLOSCITY—The police has filed obstruction of justice and car theft cases against the mother of one of the four detainees who escaped from the detention cell of the police station here.
The escapee used a handsaw that his mother secretly gave him to cut the iron grill of their cell.
Supt. Marlon Tayaba, police chief here, said Maria Virgie Flores, 51, mother of detainee-now-fugitive Harold Flores of Tonton, Lingayen was charged at the City Prosecutor’s Office after she admitted giving a handsaw to her son.
Flores and three others, Ferdinand Sarmiento, Jolly Tuates and John Rafael dela Peňa, all of Zone 5, Bayambang town, escaped dawn Monday.
Flores is facing an illegal drugs case and accused in car thefts while the other three are accused of theft of cellular phones.
Senior Supt. Mariano Luis Verzosa Jr., officer-in-charge police provincial director, relieved two police officers, Chief Inspector Abraham Hambon and PO3 Edna Salangad, duty officer and desk officer, respectively, for dereliction of duty.
Verzosa said Tayaba is “not yet off the hook” in the jailbreak pending submission of his progress report about this matter.—Eva Visperas
