The job of police chief requires the knowledge of training and experience in law enforcement. It would seem that the PNP regional command is more interested in getting a politician as police chief rather than a qualified law enforcement professional.
It takes professionalism to apprehend criminals. Too long have drug dealers been given a loose rein in the city. Hopefully this will end with the new police chief.
On Wednesday Sept. 5th, Mayor Lim announced the apprehension of two drug dealers who came by bus from Manila the day before. The arrests were made by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). The dealers had on their possession more than 86 grams of shabu with a street value of about PHP500,000. The two suspects were identified as Emily Fernandez, 48, and Kim Gama, 22, both from Manila.
Regarding the arrests, Mayor Lim said such news may place the city in bad light, but they are taking these accomplishments against illegal drugs positively.
“It is better do something, to discover something, and to apprehend someone, rather than hearing things at wala tayong ginanawa. Kaya seguro maraming nahuhuli ngayon ay dahil maraming concerned citizens ang nagsusumbong ngayon at nagbibigay ng impormasyon sa mga otoridad,” he remarked.
Hopefully, with the appointment of Noel B. Vallo as Chief of Police, arrests of this and other criminal activities will take place more often. And also kudos to the mayor for his courage in his open defiance to PNP regional command “recommendation.”
