I am convinced today more than ever of government’s complicity in making sure present crops of Filipinos remains slaves of illiteracy and ignorance. It desires a citizenry compliant to its devious ways and policies detrimental to their collective well being.

A government that is serious in tapping potentials out of its people would have pushed the envelope to higher degree and taken much greater efforts in providing highest standards of education best money can buy for its citizens.

Resources are diverted consistently on nonsense undertakings producing more chaos and disparity among its populations.

Regrettably and we hope this serves as a reminder to those able to climb the stairs of their chosen professions, there will always be permuting albatross to their success if their ethics and morals can be subdued easily by arrogance and inhumane considerations of others they sworn to serve with dignity and compassion.

Such is the case in Cebu involving doctors and nurses. The world is again watching us, Medical Board of the Philippines. We hope the incident will not prove Terri Hatcher was right all along.

A highly educated citizenry, untainted and unquestionably astute and ethical than most in government, would have seized the moment to show thieving rascals the exit doors.

If a simple issuance of pink slips is not enough to secure peaceful compliance, an intense highly motivated people, one that is not badly exploited and marginalized to a point they need to line up blocks away for cheaper rice, would have taken the high road.

Let those who cannot be persuaded to do the right thing burn in hell.

Instead we have mediocrity and government sub-standard issued educational priorities.

Hence - we have people happy and willing to line up for cheaper rice.

Happy that our pockets are picked on constantly.

Happy despite billions of pesos disappearing right before our eyes depriving specially those in need of social services.

Happy seeing ourselves mired in abject poverty in pernicious squalor.

Happy and excited we have low life pedigrees governing our lives.

Not surprisingly, we have government malevolent equally ecstatic for it has assured itself of countless happy citizens.

It all had to do with a song made popular by Willie McFerins.

BE HAPPY - DON’T WORRY!

Give the Guv credit

Isidro Ramos
25 April 2008

Guv Spine’s exhortation of 2.7 million Pangasinenses to “Be tourists in your own province” in a gathering of local politicians was a good run but the number of potential big spenders is unrealistic.

I agree big time with Mr. Carrera on this issue. The good gum should have his communications director take a snapshot of what makes up among his wage earner circles in the provincial capitol as to who would go on vacation over the next 3-6 months, 6-12 months period and so forth.

The next step is take a survey among the Pangasinenses (locals) thru the town mayors to find out which vacation tour is their favorite destination and entertainment (tourist trap) preferences then only then can he “meekly” reveal the numbers.

This is what the business people call ‘pigeon hole’ so they could direct the proper energy and resources in a more efficient manner.

This suggestion might seem too burdensome but this is how successful corporations do it. Another peculiarity among us Filipinos is staying with relatives and if there are no relative to stay with for a few days, it is no go.

However, let us give Guv Espino the credit for trying to call on his constituents to see and stay in Pangasinan first before others.

Correction, BBs (1945-1961)

Isidro Ramos
25 April 2008

Mr. Ermin Garcia, ‘Baby Boomers’ were born between 1945 and 1961, not born between 1945 and 1955 as you stated in your current column.

Before you forget, please make appropriate corrections so your readers will not invoke the W’s.

BTW, BB’s could be confused with the gun pellets. Sorry for being picky.

(Editor – Well taken…when did I write about it??)

Espin-offs

Ed Pontaoe
24 April 2008

Espin-off, what a guy!

A year after the election we should get into the deep recesses of his brain with dying cells incapable to deliver anything but hot air.

The agenda of his bloated ego . . .

1) With fiery announcement, he declared the changes to be made in how the inept and corrupt bureaucracy of the provincial government communicates to do business. Speaky Pangasinansky dialecky. . . bull.

2) With a flair for the dramatic, a show of leadership that will shame Henry VIII, his first day in office was done picking cigarette butts.

3) With the pomposity of a Charles I . . . making the gullible Bishop Oscar Cruz salivate in his sleep . . . he declared unequivocally the complete eradication of jueteng in his watch. To his credibility this scum of the earth still runs unabated.

4) With promises to sweep Urduja clean of riffraff whose hands are in the till, he did an astonishing 360 and brought back from the profligate morass of Dagupan . . . the fox eternal . . . Rafael “Excuses” Baraan. It took Excuses not long to see where’s money to be made. And with the mind of a burglar he proposed a loan from the Land Bank a staggering P950M to make ends meet.

The crème de la crème . . .

Unleash the might of 2.7 million Pangasinenses to turbocharged a dying and clamorous tourism project in the province. Lest Espin-off unwittingly, his constituents 90% of whom are under poverty line couldn’t afford to eat 3x a day.

If his intention is to impress the balikbayans whose economic situations in America are also in question, and could hardly square-off with a plane ticket:

I would say unabashedly Espin-off has the “otek na monamon”!
