It’s about time for Jose De Venecia to admit his defeat. But, it’s about time for him also to concentrate his duty in Pangasinan as congressman.

THREE AIRPORTS WITH NO PLANES. That is what will happen. I was discussing with someone here in Guam that the tourist traffic here on this small island was 1.2 million last year with one airport, while the Philippines with so many airports and so many islands only had 3.0 million last year.
When I said that three politicians were proposing three airports in Pangasinan, he said that the three politicians proposing three airports got good brains and further said that it is the truth.
When I asked why, his response was that they are good planners-they know how to fill up their pockets.

Alarming, indeed, but not surprising.
That the number of enrollees for fishery- and agriculture-related courses in universities, particularly state-owned academic institutions, has been on a steady downtrend should not come as a shock in view of the mounting uptrend in Filipinos wanting to find work overseas.
Human resources have become our nation’s biggest exports and they do bid well for keeping our economy afloat, what with their foreign currency remittances contribution almost 10% to the total gross national product, according to data from the Department of Labor and Employment.

Dagupan City police chief should resign
By Ermin F. Garcia Jr.
The recent arrest of Dagupan City’s suspected most notorious drug pushers is an added feather to the cap of the Regional Police Office under Chief Supt. Leo Bataoil, and specifically, Sr. Supt. Jane Aonso, head of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 1.
But it is one helluva damn big embarrassment for the members of the Dagupan City Police, ironically recently adjudged the best city police station in the country, headed by Supt. Dionicio Borromeo.

The ‘Tabako’ nearing 80 still dances the Cha-cha
By Gerry Garcia
A majority of Pangasinenses sensing the “imminence” of JDV’s ouster as Speaker of the House do not think the day will soon come considering the number of times he had held on to the post in succession on the strength of united support from his colleagues in Congress. And in spite of protests from the noisy senators.
Yet, with former majority leader Rep. Prospero Nograles, long-time advocate of Joe, jumping ship in his eagerness to catch the speakership, later days, would be bothersome as Nograles is being backed by the entire Mindanao bloc and other groups . . . despite PGMA’s alleged call on her allies in the House not to involve themselves in any move to oust the Speaker.

JdV’s impending ouster
By Jun Velasco
MOST Pangasineses are worried about the perceived impending ouster of Speaker Joe de Venecia allegedly due to Malacañang’s machinations.
We don’t think it would be easy to pin down a master of the game. If we know the myriad factors that built the partnership between him and President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the anticipated split simply looks unthinkable.
But it can happen. It is already happening given, as we now see, the flawed foundation upon which the partnership was built.
