Sanitary landfill to be pushed
SAN JACINTO–The city of Dagupan finally began a serious offensive to retake the whole 30-hectare land it bought in barangay Awai, San Jacinto in 2002, but lost the following year to the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) by default.
City Officials led by City Legal Officer George Mejia served notice of their determination to recover all of the property in a meeting on December 10 in Awai with officials of the Department of Agrarian Reform led by Assistant Regional Director Felicidad Dumaguing.

URDANETA CITY-Bound by history, Ordizia City in the autonomous Basque country in Spain, and Urdaneta City are now sister cities.
Urdaneta Mayor Amadeo Perez Jr. crossed continents to sign the sisterhood pact with Ordizia City Mayor Jose Miguel Sta. Maria in Ordizia on December 5, coinciding with the 500th birthday of Fr. Andres Urdaneta after whom this city was named.

LINGAYEN-The provincial budget next year is pegged at P1.32 billion from P1.14 billion this year, or higher by 16%.
The 2008 budget was approved by the provincial board during last week’s session through Appropriation Ordinance No. 5 series of 2007.
The bulk of the province’s General Fund goes to health-related expenditures, infrastructure, and provincial office operations.

AFTER the storm surge that destroyed the beach sheds lined up at the Blue Beach area, the city government immediately put forward the much awaited Tondaligan Redevelopment Program.
The program was discussed during a meeting called by City Administrator Alvin Fernandez, attended by members of the Tondaligan Vendors Cooperative.

MAYOR Alipio Fernandez Jr. pledged anew to build a modern training and processing center for bangus deboning and packaging that will employ women from the Gawad Kalinga housing project.
Fernandez said the center seeks to produce processed bangus for household consumption and for the export market to enable the country to earn much-needed foreign exchange.

A MILLION pesos for each barangay.
House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., representative of the 4th District, made this promise to his constituents last week when officials of the 140 barangays took their oath of office before him.
The 4th District covers Dagupan City and the towns of Mangaldan, San Jacinto, Manaoag and San Fabian.
The fund will be sourced from De Venecia’s Countrywide Development Fund.

SOME 3,000 to 4,000 pupils have already benefited from a month long feeding program implemented by the city government since July this year.
City Nutrition Officer Leah Aquino, project coordinator, said the pupils were from preparatory to Grade III in different public schools in the city.
The feeding program, which could serve as a model for the whole country, lasts for one month and zeroes in on children with below normal weight.

MANAOAG-The SOS has been raised for Pangasinan’s agricultural traders.
Gov. Amado Espino Jr. has appealed to Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap for help in curbing the smuggling of agricultural products into Pangasinan through La Union and the two Ilocos provinces.
Yap, for his part, promptly acted and called Finance Secretary Gary Teves and Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales.
