Give the Guv a chance

Pardon me, Mr. Carrera, but you are full of assumptions.

What made you think that Gov. Spines would do the same as Gov. Colet or Father Carreon did in the past?

Do you know Gov. Spines too well that you are judging him the way you do?

Not for nothing, but you are hitting a proven leader below the belt. I am, in no way trying to defend the Governor. I don’t personally know him and there’s no doubt in my mind that he can be viewed as arrogant by some people, including yourself, but, this does not mean that he can’t do a damn good job as a governor of Pangasinan.

If you can’t stomach politicians who are “users”, well, I got news for you, neither do I.

But the fact of the matter is, in the Philippines, all politicians are users. Why do you think they spend millions of pesos in campaigning? Why would they invest such amount of money?

The issue is: Pangasinenses need jobs. The governor, along with the congressmen, mayors and councilors are doing what they can to help the people. He is leading in the right direction. He may surround himself with not-so-good people but that doesn’t mean he can’t do the job.

Give him a chance. Let’s stop throwing mud at him.

However, I do admire you for being outspoken and I do understand your frustrations. Unfortunately, we can’t do much by just talking. Pangasinenses want results. Our people want action. Our elected governor is trying to resolve the problems affecting our beloved Pangasinan.

Let us be positive. Can you please, come up with good ideas, if you have any, and send it to our governor’s office? I am sure he would appreciate it.

Can’t agree more on your great idea Ms. Heidi, for Mr. Carrera to personally invite Gov. Espino to visit Guam and welcome him with open arms to stay at his house free.

This window of opportunity to work in a military base for our luckless kabeleyan will be a tremendous boost to their morale and keeping them out of poverty temporarily.

Hopefully things will get into fruition once the invite has been extended to the guv and work visa is ironed out on both sides of the immigration offices and the US military.

You are the man, Mr. Carrera.

Al S. Mendoza, PCE Jr.’s Strategy for Ate Glue’s Invitation:

It is very obvious from the PCE Jr.’s column this week that he knows how to be a good polishing boy in order to obtain his “VISA” to Malacanang.

So if a corrupt politician or businessman or a drug lord give “cash” to the PCE JR., it is not a bribe in his dictionary so he can write “PAPOGI NEWS” to polish the corrupt politician or corrupt businessman or the drug lord’s image because it is only a “CASH GIFT”.

MR. ERMIN GARCIA JR- Is there such a thing as “JOURNALIST’s CREED” established since 1906? Is this the new creed that is being advocated by SUNDAY PUNCH to journalism students?

Your response will be most appreciated by the readers of SUNDAY PUNCH. Thank you.

(EFG’S REPLY: We have the Filipino Journalist’s Code of Ethics as developed by the Philippine Press Institute and the National Press Club that the PUNCH editorial staff closely adheres to. I’d like to believe this is reflected in our news reports. Our columnists are aware of the code but their views are of their own, not of the PUNCH. There is a separate board of ethics in PPI and NPC that readers can report to. It receives and acts on complaints, i.e., acts of bribery, biased and unfair reporting, discrimination, illegal representation, etc, allegedly committed by journalists and newspapers).

Heidi:

If a governor who is truly looking for jobs for his kabaleyans waits for “official invitation” from someone instead of doing his job and use the available vast resources (advisers, the labor attaché of the consular offices, and technology-internet), then what kind of governor is that?

Former Governor Colet, together with Father Carreon, were invited to Guam and were driven around the island the next day after the usual inaugural celebration, and Colet did not even acknowledge that person (then President of Pangasinan Association of Guam) when he returned to Pangasinan to deliver the association’s aid for the earthquake victims during a Rotary club meeting. And that was only a few months after his visit to Guam.

When I try to analyze why Colet did not recognize that person who looks like Ninoy Aquino, the only reason that I can think of was because he made and handed the check to the Rotary president instead of Colet.

I am sorry but I can not stomach the arrogance of most politicians, therefore, I will just refer your suggestion to some Pangasinenses here who like to rub elbows and be seen in pictures with public officials and celebrities.

If Gov. Spin is really going off island for a working visit, then he must pay his own way, not at somebody’s expense. Rubbing elbows with politicians is good if they really work for the good of the public,  politicians who are not arrogant and corrupt, and user.

Please understand that I am willing to help our kabaleyans, but I am just very cautious about people who try to exploit the poor people.

It is very common for wily people to use somebody’s name and collect fees just to provide BOLA-BOLA information to our poor kabaleyans.

The Governor may have good intentions, but those surrounding him may not.

Gawaen da kan “BARAAN”.
