PENRO organizes ‘Earth Savers’ movement

THE Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) has formally organized on Wednesday the Pangasinan Earth Savers Movement (PESM).

The PESM is a project of the Pangasinan PENRO as a social mobilization strategy towards the promotion of environmental protection, biodiversity and natural resources conservation, mitigation of global warning and enforcement of environmental laws and regulations.

At the launching were PENRO officials headed by Wendy Co, officials and student leaders from different secondary schools in Dagupan City and the Waste Management Division (WMD) of the city government.

Other concerned groups also signed the memorandum of agreement (MOA) committing to do their parts to achieve the noble objective of the movement.

The PESM seeks to open its membership to all private and public high school student organizations that are willing to join or are presently undertaking projects and activities in the promotion of environmental protection, biodiversity and natural resources conservation and other advocacy programs.

The objective of this movement is to complement global and national initiatives in promoting environmental conscious ness, undertake doable activities that can contribute to the mitigation of global warming and promotion of sustainable development.

The PESM will also forge cooperation with private sector and other government and non-government organizations.

The PESM plans to organize working groups to include planning committee; prioritize and undertake doable short-term and long-term projects; network with all environment-friendly organizations; and conduct regular project evaluation and documentation.—CSR
