Bound by law

Once again politics rears its ugly head. There is no reason, other than political, to challenge a court ruling regarding the issuance of a building permit for the future tourist/commercial building.

City Engineer Ma. Virginia Rosario is bound by law, which she swore to uphold, to comply with the court order.

We all know that Mayor Fernandez does not want the building built simply because it would be another feather on former Mayor Lim’s hat and not his.

Money wasted on court challenges could be better used for the people of the city.

Kudos to the two legal luminaries RTC Judge Rolando Mislang and RTC Judge Ulysses Butuyan,  of Branches 42 and 52 respectively. You’re the best of the rest. May your tribe increase.

RTC Judge Mislang proactive stance to clip the red tape that delayed the controversial commercial/tourism project by MetroState in the city of Dagupan is highly commendable.

BOT projects are not cheap. Progressive countries even gave tax incentives to developers. The requirement of a building permit is just a nuisance clouded with political undertones.

Completion of this project brings financial windfall to the city. It creates jobs and opportunities. It improves the skyline and the investment climate of the city.

Equally cited for a job well done is RTC Judge Ulysses Butuyan. Judge Butuyan is compassionate to help poor litigants by applying a solidary bail bond lumped for more than one accused to save cost in court proceedings. His innovativeness and pioneering spirit are unparalleled in the court of law.

Take note that Engr Rosario of the City Engineer’s Office is a tool of bad politics who are enemies of prosperity and development.

My Kabaleyans of Pangasinan, let’s all be guardians of Philippines progress and not destabilizers.

THE PCE JR’s REPORT ON HIS 40th TOKYO MOTOR SHOW:

The report sounds more of ensuring the invitation to the next motor show than sharing technical information for the benefit of the public.

Where is the five (5) minute interview of the world’s most powerful man in the automotive industry?

Anyway, his column about the show is what I expected from the promising member of the PCE SOCIETY. This is what Ermin Garcia Jr. wrote about-media for sale.

Wait. Let him be. Let Al Mendoza stuff himself first. Let him savor the hospitality his host showered on him before you ask about the Tokyo Motor Show.

The show runs until the 11th of November, and it features 500 vehicles on display dominated by the most innovative concepts of the Japanese with the odd looking fuel efficient hybrids to accelerate buyer’s interest.

With car sales at home going to the dogs, the Japanese car makers let fantasy run wild to indulge the wary car buyer.

Does Al Mendoza have the technical know-how to elucidate how these contraptions work like the Nissan Pivo 2 or the much vaunted GT-R . . . Suzuki’s SSC Pixy. . . Mazda’s Taiki . . . Yamaha’s Bobby . . . Toyota’s Prius or the i-Real? It remains to be seen.

But with his mind clogged-up by outrageous amount of food and Kirin he’d taken, his eyes glued to golf balls in flight, his attention occupied by his benefactors; there’s only one way we can terminate . . . his trip is insultingly - a waste of time.

Will these hybrids entice buyers’ interest especially the young? Unlikely.

Hybrids have drawbacks. It’s bulky which includes the battery, motor and engine and not known for speed, handling and acceleration. And the hustle of charging the battery everytime.

Christopher Richter - analyst with the Calyon Capital Markets Asia in Tokyo said, “The decline in personal incomes, particularly the young, has had a negative impact on the vehicle market”.

Al Mendoza should know that Tokyo is notoriously unfriendly to car owners. Parking fees, sky-high taxes drives the urban dwellers to commuter trains and the gap between the rich and poor widening hurt car sales.

He should know, too, Lamborghini sells like hamburgers in Japan not hybrids. The name of the game.
