The Miriam puzzlement

Do you remember the musical film (1956) The King and I where Yul Brynner did ‘It’s a Puzzlement?’

It’s been a puzzlement to me why others would link adorable senator Miriam Defensor Santiago to a delectable fermented soybean we ordinary folks know better as “Toyo“.

As if that wasn’t intriguing enough, in comes other groups none of whom psychologist or stress management specialist cavalierly referring to her tantrums simply as -”Tinotoyona naman si Brenda!

Aren’t we Filipinos a different breed when it comes to lavishing our celebrities with praises the same way we get rid of excess intestinal stuff?

Nakakatuwa tayo kung minsan di po ba? But wait. What about the reputation being impugn to a wonderful product which Martin Yan, Ming Tsay and a host of others can’t live without insofar as their cooking classes is concerned?

What do you think a bottle of ‘Toyo‘ will say if given the opportunity to articulate differences between something made of perfected class as oppose to one that is unpredictably lacking in taste? Di nga naman fair sa ‘Toyo‘ agree?

Maybe it is more suitable if critics would just retain old standards when referring to her “unsanitoriable’ behavior which are; ‘Me sumpong na naman or me baltik na naman si Miriam?’ Di ba pinoy na pinoy ang dating?

The advantage to this is, we get to pound our pork chops and chopsueys with loads of toyo and not be bothered with the thought someone out there could be thinking of us being a piece of the Miriam puzzlement!

Reading your column, “Playing with fire”, Mr. Duque it sounds like you had a change of heart for Benjie Lim.

You wrote, “The reverses that our former Mayor Benjie Lim has encountered such as the Awai landfill fiasco are known everywhere here. To our simple view, we blame Benjie’s poor staff work. He was not given full details about the projects, deals, agreements he was entering into”.

FYI, Mr. Lim ran and was elected for public office with his eyes and ears wide open. He just surrounded himself with unqualified staff (Political favors). He is a big boy so he doesn’t need other people to make excuses for him.

As they say, “An excuse is a cousin to a lie”.

This was a year before 911.

May nakakaalam ba?

Inquiring minds want to know. Yun lang po!
