Budgeting for a dream

The analogy of “Realizing America” and “Realizing Alaminos’ 20-yr. Plan” baffles my mind, so can I try another analogy instead?

Gentlemen, have you ever dreamed of remodeling your bathroom? You have a ten thousand budget to build a bathroom of your dreams, so off you went to buy the grandest throne you’ve ever set your eyes on, marble flooring, Jacuzzi tub, the works. You start working on this dream bathroom and before you know it, you run out of money for, of all things, the right mortar to anchor your tub, your throne, your floor.

You can do one of three things: abandon the project, buy substandard mortar and pray it’ll do the job, or get in more debt. Chances are, you’ll do two of those things and still NOT complete the project.

I realize this analogy is as faulty as the one about the making of America. I also realize that there isn’t anything wrong with dreaming the possibilities, BUT at what price and to what extent?

The probability of realizing that dream has to be considered, analyzed, BUDGETED not just for the first stage of the project but for the entire, long haul.
