Issues being discussed in the Punch Forum are blown out of proportion. Making a comparison between the proposed Alaminos Airport and Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA3) is like comparing an apple to an orange or an elephant to a much smaller creature.

Others are being made to believe that the comparison is between two international airports. Actually, it is far from the truth.

I wonder where they got the idea that the proposed Alaminos Airport will be comparable to an international airport like NAIA3.

From what I understand, the runway of the proposed Alaminos airport will only be 1.2 km. long. Runways of international airports are two times or even three times longer than that. Most of them are more than 3 kilometers long. Even the runways of the major domestic airports in the Philippines are much longer than 1.2 kilometers.

Philippine airports that I know with just 1.2 kilometer runways are minor commercial domestic airports like the Bagabag Airport in Nueva Ecija, Basco Airport in Batanes and Bislig Airport in Surigao.

In fact, one of the two airports serving Boracay which is Kalibo Airport has a 2.2 km runway. It is a minor commercial domestic airport.

Caticlan Airport is the other airport serving Boracay and it is just a feeder airport with only 810 m. runway.
