Mr. Delfin's, “There is no such king in the Philippines", was in response to Mr. Fernandez's extravaganza on the word subject, which everybody knew referred to a vassal - one that's under the control of a monarch.
It was in the present tense, which by all considerations not applicable to an independent unicameral state.
Mr. Delfin is unquestionably right! "Sarag con ipusta so amin ya nanpisingan cod saya", that Pangasinan was never a kingdom ruled by this phantasmagoria of a king, King Kasikis.
There is no verifiable record that can relate to this account, on the simple reason; assumptions. Words of mouth . . . kuno-kuanda!
It's on record, tribal chieftains or datus ruled the southern Philippine archipelago into the Visayas. There was no centralized sultanate with a sultan - that's why petty wars amongst tribes occurred.
It must be noted, too, if there were a sultan . . . Magellan should negotiated with him instead of Lapu-Lapu, a datu.
Back to Malong. Irrelevant of everything, Malong declared himself king comparable to the king of Spain, in disregard of the consequences, he knew it was foolhardy, and will get hanged for it.
