I am a frequent visitor of this paper’s site and I am often thrilled to read the brave comments being made (and continues to make) by Mr. Pontaoe.

However, there was something which irritated me and made me restless on my seat, and being a native of Sta. Barbara, I felt obliged to stand up for my town mates when they are being attacked, insulted and degraded.

I am referring to the July 31, 2007 comments of Mr. Pontaoe on Mayor Velasco. In the said letter he blatantly insulted the good people of Sta. Barbara by calling them “BARBARIANS”.

I am not sure if you are pretending to be omniscient (all-knowing) or you are just as empty and (ignorant) as your words. If you refer to the people of Sta. Barbara the most polite and proper way to address them is simply “people of Sta. Barbara” or “residents of Sta. Barbara” but never “Barbarians”.

“Barbara” is a proper name. It is the name of the town’s patron “Santa Barbara”. Do not corrupt and use in vain the name of people whose lives are worthy of emulation just like the name of our beloved Sta. Barbara.

If there is a human being who is worthy of being called “barbarian” Mr. Pontaoe, it should be you because barbaric people destroy and attack people existing in peace and harmony and you just did that.

My mother taught me to always watch my words, be polite and respectful. And, most importantly, to shut up when I have nothing good to say. I hope you learned from that.

On the contrary, Mr. Delfin’s post on the 17th was not true to form and substance and could not be absolutely right.

In the first place, he did not say there were no kings of Pangasinan. What he said exactly was there is no such king in the Philippines.

According to history, there were such kings in the Philippines. We learned from history that before the Spanish came to the country, kings and princesses ruled Philippines especially in Mindanao and including Pangasinan.

It has been said that the last known king to rule Pangasinan was King Kasikis. The seat of his kingdom was believed to have been located in an area now known as San Carlos City.

Andres Malong wanted to restore the old Pangasinan kingdom. He proclaimed himself king after leading a rebellion against the Spaniards.

Re: Bolusan relatives,

Manuel you have a lot of relatives in Hawaii and in California. It seems like you misspelled your family name as DOMAOAL.

Bishop Cruz, I saw with my own eyes, jueteng is alive in Dagupan, at least in Tapuac District, and in San Carlos City and in Bayambang.

I was able to bet on one of these towns.

Airport or airfart?

The latter is more believable than the former. These mayors of Alaminos and Santa Barbara are into something big, a dream so big, it’s too big even for their britches to wear.

Take Braganza of Alaminos. He believed Arroyo on her assurance of a P700M financing of an int’l airfart. Looks like a kid promised a lollipop unknowingly hoodwinked it cannot be done. Braganza should take his losses and face the fact and not fooling Alaminosians on his supercilious and imbecilic announcement this airfart is a done deal.

On this P700M promised he should have known, it’s not enough to build a decent urinal. Easy picking, Mayor Hernani “Aniani” Braganza?

Case in point: Mayor Daley of Chicago’s idea that went the shit hole. To relieve O’hare and Midway airports, Daley convinced the gov’t and the City of Gary, Indiana, to build up that city’s airport to divert passengers and cargo. That airport is now dead, which goes to show that airline and passengers are needed for survival and profitability. Nobody in his/her right mind would travel 11/2 hours to Gary when you can access O’hare and Midway in 25 minutes tops.

Resembling the Macapagal Int’l Airport, Lingayen-Binmaley feeder, Braganza’s Int’l boondoggle, Cojuangco’s Int’l at Laoac, Santa Barbara’s Int’l is one too many. Irresponsible and corrupt.

Likewise, Velasco of Santa Barbara, a dreamer with a huge and empty head. His head became empty after the elections that he at once reneged on the promises he made that got him elected.

One of the prominent promise and have the Barbarians elated, is how to control the incessant flooding of the town.

Two, bring justice to those who did the town wrong.

Three, the eradication of jueteng from the town.

Came out Velasco had no printout . . . the platform turned out, is just smokes and mirrors. Product of his highly volatile brain.

Nevertheless, the unceremoniously resigned treasurer of the town, Julie Fernandez . . . quit before Velasco was sworn . . . was last seen . . . according to my rats . . . footsie footing in the beach off Malibu and shopping like hell on wheels at the Rodeo footloose and fancy free.

And jueteng? Very much alive and up and running.

The people of Santa Barbara should demand from him - I said, ‘demand not ask ‘ - why put this airfart notion on the front burner in the first place? Why have a divorce when the marriage is not consummated? Why change horses in the middle of the stream, Mayor Velasco?

As it is, this airfart, is equivalent to Velasco’s 10 point agenda . . . an unwanted anal gas . . . a cockamamie approach to reality . . . a cock-and-bull story all along.

“Senior Superintendent Marvin Bolabola, prepares to smash rows of video gambling machines….”

It is human nature to gamble whether it be for love or money. Not too much can be done by the city or provincial government about gambling for love but ILLEGAL gambling can be greatly reduced by allowing a legal casino to be built within the city limit.

The usual argument against legalized gaming usually is that the poor will spend all their money gambling. Baloney! A person will gamble whether he is rich or poor because he wants to.

It is not the job of the government to legislate morality. When I go to the casinos in Reno or Las Vegas I set a limit. If I win, great. If I am losing, I stop.

A habitual gambler will always find a way to gamble, be it at a street corner rolling dice or at the cockfights.

I say eliminate illegal gambling and build a government controlled casino. Use the profit to help the needy and provide truly free education for the kids.
