How did an “ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING” become a “CRIME SCENE”? The last sentence of the report states “Recovered from the crime scene was….

Readers must make a broader analysis of each and every columnist of SUNDAY PUNCH:
I believe that the readers of Sunday Punch should analyze and evaluate some of the so-called columnist of Sunday Punch, and if these so-called COLUMNISTS are just there for NO USEFUL OR BENEFICIAL PURPOSE TO THE READING PUBLIC, then we must ask Ermin Garcia Jr., the publisher to replace them with somebody who can contribute to Sunday Punch’s real purpose.
The readers understand that there must be a “BALANCE” of good and bad news, but the problem is that some of these so-called COLUMNISTS are just doing some “PAPOGI, PANGILITI, AND PAKULO NEWS”- THE THREE “Ps” or the KISS ASS REPORTING in Philippine journalism invented by the one and only “Prolific columnist Extraordinaire”.

Mayor Velasco, I salute you again for your noble mission.
How about extending your cause to get rid of the people who are behind the guns for hire? There are reports that there are guns for hire not in your town alone but also in your nearby towns like Malasiqui and San Carlos.
You might be surprised to find out who are the people behind these guns for hire. They could be some politicians you know.
I hope you can share your expertise, experience, influence, and intelligence network to the other town mayors but not to those politicians who hire these guns for hire. Please get rid of these guns for hire and the people behind them.
The people of the third district will be very grateful if you extend your noble intention. Mabuhay po kayo Sir.

Mr. Jess Delfin was absolutely right. His post on the 17th telling the Forum there were no kings of Pangasinan, was true to form and substance. Kings of Pangasinan? Nobody, period.
Basing on recorded history we should separate the myth from the truth. If we look deeply into the writer’s mind who took the freedom to spoon-feed the Pangasinense of the exploits of these Pangasinan heroes, we can find lapses in judgment when some important criteria are missing or not explained.
Claiming Malong and Palaris were kings of Pangasinan is falsity in all its colors. On Andres Malong: Malong started his rebellion against Spanish rule in 1660. It ended in Jan 17, 1661. It only lasted less than a year but within this period he showed hubris and audacity to proclaim himself “king” of Pangasinan.
On the political perspective, this could not be done. The Philippines then, was under Spanish sovereignty and Malong declaring himself “king” . . . is idiotic. He was just a plain renegade who got caught and hanged.
On Juan dela Cruz Palaris: He never proclaimed himself “king”. It cannot be substantiated. He started his insurrection in 1762 to 1765. It went further than Malong because it coincided with the Seven Years War between England, France and Spain. Spain was preoccupied with her affairs in Europe and the Brits were in Manila.
But like all rebellion in the Philippines, it died a slow death blown by outgeneraled command, lack of logistics and the non-cohesiveness of the Filipino and treachery. Like Malong, he was offered on a platter and dismembered to be forgotten. He was thirty two years old.
On Urduja: Urduja in all her splendor is just a legend . . .fiction . . . an allegory. It could not be proven this girl wrapped in a feminine Hercules did really exist. Urduja came to the forefront when a numbskull of a Moslem traveler, Ibn Batuta, traveling on a Chinese merchant junk in 1347 came to Pangasinan – “kingdom of Tawalisi” - and saw Urduja in the accoutrement of an “Amazon” of the Brazilian Pantanal. And behold, the myth evolved.
The account of this jerk Batuta on his travels was disallowed, being declared capricious and conspiratorial. Until now, Pangasinenses are fascinated by Urduja, holding still the fantasy there was a princess.
Good while it last.

Mr. Duque,
Since you seem to be the one who knows his way around the politics of education, can you please address a few of my concerns?
GMA is said to be hiring more teachers as part of her education package in her latest SONA. What exactly is the minimum requirement to be an elementary teacher or a high school teacher?
The national test they take before receiving their credential, what is the breakdown of their scores? Is there a flat percentage they have to achieve to pass or is it broken down in percentages as far as who is the most qualified and so forth?
Once candidates are placed in this pool of employable educators, who actually hire these people? Is there a panel of mixed individuals who interview these new teachers or are recommendations good enough?
When new teachers are finally in place, what kind of support do they receive from the government, if any?
And are the credentials renewable every certain years and are they mandated to show proof of professional development to keep teaching or do they get a blanket credential for life?
The secondary teachers, high school, are their credentials single subject, for example, English degree for English credential or is a degree in education enough to place them anywhere be it elementary or high school?
And finally, how much do these teachers actually earn in a year? If GMA does spend the money she promised for education, and you, Mr. Duque, has vented enough of your frustrations in this publication about education, don’t you think it’s high time to re-vamp how these candidates are being trained?

Sunday Punch has come a long way. I remember it was the first newspaper that I grew up with.
My late father was an avid reader of the paper. I remember every weekend he woke up early in the morning and walked from Pantal (Nable Street) to the magazine store at the side entrance of the former Pantranco beside the old Dagupena and bought the newspaper. It was also the very first newspaper that was always available in our home.
Sunday Punch had also helped me a lot in my grade school when I did my news reports. I remember when my father used to test my reading ability especially when I was in first grade. He would ask me to read a portion of the paper and he was so proud of me.
During those times, we did not have much available books at home and so the weekend newspapers were compiled in his desk. It was the only reading material that was around the house.
There were no television and radio to entertain us so there was much time to concentrate in school because there were no distractions. It was also a newspaper that was affordable for low income people.
I am one of the readers who are so grateful for all the services that the Sunday Punch has done and continuously doing; thanks also to the hardworking and dedicated people who are behind it.
God Bless the Garcia Family and all the people who are behind the success of Sunday Punch.
May God Be with You Always.
