Greetings! Your SUNDAY PUNCH is now 51 years old!

We invite you to join us in celebrating this new landmark as PUNCH’s friend and patron. We would not have come this far without your support.

On this occasion, we will publish a series of special anniversary issues to remind everyone that the PUNCH has been there reporting the good and the bad about life in Pangasinan for the past 51 years… and raring to do more in the years to come.

We will most sincerely appreciate it if you can join us in celebrating this occasion and let our readers know that you have been with the PUNCH through the years, with a special ad message!

Maraming salamat po sa tulong ninyo!

Mr. Van S. De Leon:

Your suggestion about tapping the enormous resources from the training and experience of overseas Filipinos was done by South Korea in late 70’s to the 80’s until it became an economically stable country. Those Korean technical workers, engineers, educators, doctors, nurses, executives, and entrepreneurs who worked overseas were interviewed by the Korean government and national televisions. Their brains were picked up and put to good use.

In the Philippines, the Government picked up the brains of the “pabongga” association’s officers and the different alumni associations whose purpose is mostly to show off. There are many Filipinos with great achievement who can contribute a lot towards the development of the country but unfortunately are not welcome.

For the ERMIN GARCIA SR’s project, I believe that there must be an sponsoring organization or resolution from the city government, proper site must be identified and the necessary legal document of the site secured from the government, and the design, the funding and construction will just follow.

I believe this project is a worthy endeavor and it is an honor to be part of it.

The column “If I were Spines” by Al S. Mendoza:

Out of the entire column, there were only two (2) suggestions without any basis, one of which is pure BS and the other is not a high priority at this time.

Why would SPINES set up six (6) management teams if he has good managerial abilities and a good drillmaster? As a payoff for people who will be paid by the so-called Philippine Law 15-30(collect salary on the 15th and the 30th day of the month)? Even the Department of Budget and Management of the national government do not have regional management teams.

While sports is a good way to develop the youth and make them stay away from drugs and other illegal activities, there are more pressing and critical problems that SPINES must focus on FIRST such as protection of the environment (dismantling of all fish pens) to solve the fishkills and allow the legitimate fishpond owners and marginalized citizens to benefit from the river’s resources, and develop Pangasinan as a world class tourism destination, and obviously peace and order, eradication of the illegal drugs and gambling together with infrastructure development. Then economic development and investment will just fall into place.

With good economy, sports which is normally supported and underwritten by thriving industries will be developed to the fullest extent and I believe Mr. Al S. Mendoza and my dear friend Jesse know that very well. Instead of writing a meaningful column (providing the basis of your suggestions), you instead used your space for too much “BOLA-BOLA” which is common and abundant among most of the columnists.

IF I WERE SPINES, I WILL NOT HEED YOUR ADVICE-PERIOD.

Next time do a better job for the benefit of the public-hindi yong nangingiliti, papogi at bola-bola na palagi.

Mr. Bernard Diaz:

You’re giving Espino 100 days to turn around Pangasinan? Come on!

First of all, nobody knows his agenda… his order of battle.

Secondly, he doesn’t even know what’s to turn around. Espino said, “To revive the glory of Pangasinan”. What glory? Did he mean that the previous governors like Braganza, Duque, Estrella, Primicias, Agbayani Sr., Colit, Orbos, and Agbayani of late dishonored Pangasinan?

To prove his mettle, he’s stepping on the dead bodies of these governors, and to those who are still alive, is an injustice, a transgression - vicious and not proportionate to the intent.

The way Espino started his administration with indiscretion, picking up garbage for an exposé, I can guess not wildly, he’s too small for a governor. It would be an extreme naïveté on anybody to cling to the idea – Espino - is the much needed medicine to a dying patient.

Pangasinan will prove him wrong; it will be too big even for his enormous ego. It would be too much for his own good.

The only accomplishment of record we are hearing is not his tenure as congressman, but as a policeman. He helped captured Dante, the NPA chieftain. Dante was snared because he got caught not on the intelligence of those who did it. He was trapped not because he wanted not to be, he was pinched because he desired to. Dante realized life on the run is immensely miserable.

Mr. Diaz, one hundred days is not enough. Give him more at least three years or nine years whatever he wants.

If Victor Agbayani did not do shit in 9 years what will you expect from Espino? This dog Espino, is a different breed, but he came from the same kennel - the same training - the same environment. Nothing changes.

S..O..S.

Governor Espino must tap the financial and intellectual wealth of overseas Pangasinense scattered all over the world. It is a gold mine. He has to make use of it. He must get consultants to structure a strategy to get them involved as a united group for economic development of Pangasinan.

Fellow posters, can we meet in Pangasinan next year or earlier to get things moving of honoring a great Pangasinan hero-Ermin Garcia Sr. Agenda- A bronze statue for him, naming a highway/street in his honor, special Pangasinan holiday for him etc..

Five posters signified interest in the project. It can be easily be put to reality, fellow Pangasinenses. It is not impossible.
