Fulfill those promises

Now that election season is over, let’s HOPE that the elected officials will be true to their promises. The result of the election shows frustration among Filipino voters. It became evident that the people are tired of empty promises and so some voted not on how much money was spent for the campaign but on the integrity of the candidates.

So many had witnessed candidates buying votes and it might have appeared that some people were selling their votes. More than likely they accepted the money because of hardship but voted for the candidates who they thought could deliver good governance. We have to wait and see how the elected politicians deliver the good product.

To Gen. Velasco, the elected mayor of Santa Barbara, Pangasinan. Congratulations Sir! Your visions for Santa Barbara had caught my attention. Please make good on your promises. The people of Santa Barbara had been so patient and this time they want to try another leadership in the hope that good changes can happen. Good Luck and Mabuhay!!

Abangan natin ang susunod na kabanata, mga Kabaleyans. Karamihan ay maaring ang nasa isipan na nila ngayon ay ang Presidential election sa 2010 o dili kaya ay ang pagsulong ng Cha-cha hinggil sa election, economic and other reforms, abolition of senate for unicameral and federal system and deciding whether to maintain the Presidential system or to change it to Parliamentary system of government based on either the French model proposed by JDV or the English model proposed by FVR.

Dito puwedeng makakatulong at magagamit ang talino at husay ng mga Filipino dahil we do not really need to be elected to be able to help. We must advocate a Filipino-style of Parliamentary system of government based on the English model of Parliamentary system wherein the President is the head of the state with just ceremonial powers and the Prime Minister is the head of the government unlike the current Presidential system wherein the President is the head of both the state and the government.

One good feature na siguradong magugustuhan ng mga Filipinos tungkol sa parliamentary system is the fact that the election is localized kaya hindi masiyadong magastos para sa mga kandidato at mas may laban at posibilidad na mananalo sa election ang mga qualified candidates, tulad ng “Ang Kapatiran” at iba pa kahit kakaunti lang ang kanilang campaign funds.

In addition to a parliamentary system of government, we must also advocate a unicameral and a federal Philippines. Small size countries like the Philippines do not really need Senators.

I am a firm believer of what the KISS strategists, especially computer programmers, often say, “Keep It Simple, Stu”. The current Presidential system is complex, very expensive and very difficult to manage causing excessive burden and unnecessary yoke that is overloading the country and its people.

I strongly believe that it is more economical and much more manageable if we can keep all our systems in the Philippines as simple as possible. Filipinos have all the talents and resources to make it feasible or to make it a reality towards a better future for the country and its people. If we are really after the welfare of Filipinos why not GO for it?

Godspeed to all.
