Mr. Oriel,

I’m about to tread on dangerous waters here. I know this is between you and Mr. Pontaoe, but there’s that one sentence in your last post that struck my ribs the wrong way; (Canada’s) parliamentary system of government (is) one of the models of parliamentary system being proposed in the Philippines.

For over 400 years, the Spaniards ruled the Philippines and brought with them their own system of government, next came the Japanese, then the Americans with each one imposing their own constitution on our people.

Mr. Oriel, Canada’s parliamentary system works for Canada because it is FOR Canadians. Philippine history is so convoluted with foreign influence that our people cannot and have not experienced how to be truly independent from any foreign control. They have their current constitution written BY Filipinos FOR Filipinos. Just like any new policy, it needs tweaking. There is no system of government that I know of that wrote a perfect constitution the first time around.

And another thing, your analogy of Cheney to Pontaoe doesn’t hold water either. You’re talking about trust, do you really know for certain that Cheney’s hunting buddies do not want him around when they’re out hunting? You presumed they do not want him around just as you presumed that Pontaoe has lost credibility in this board based on how you presented your argument against him. Wasn’t this the point of your whole argument to begin with, presumptions?
