Waking up the dreamers

Jeremias Andrade Carrera

GMA today denied the rating recently garnered by the Philippines as the most corrupt nation in ASIA. Indonesia is second. Do we pretend that this is not true to show that we love the Philippines?

All indicators show that the Philippines is sinking under GMA and it seems that the time has come for the millions and millions of Filipinos with “GOOD HEART” TO EITHER SINK WITH IT AS SUGGESTED BY THE AVID SUPPORTERS OF GMA or do something about it. The SUPREME COURT of the USA recently said that the corrupt must be hanged. If these Filipinos with “GOOD HEART” want to help themselves, they must wake up the dreamers who just keep on dreaming only or change the CAPTAIN.

Mr. Pontaoe,

You missed the point by a mile. The dreams and vision I am talking about are not the empty promises made by these politicians. Your example is perfect, Mr. Braganza’s case. He is fed up with Philippine politics so he decided not to run. But that does not mean he has given up hope on the Philippines. By not running, he has given a strong statement to the people that our political system is in dire need of change. His vision for a better Philippines is still there. He just decided to take a different path to get to it.

The vision of the people is what I’m talking about here, their desire to change whatever it is that needs to be changed. Some believe it can be done through charter change. Others don’t. Some believe change should come from the people first, and the government will follow. Others believe that it is impossible for Philippine politics to change altogether. Whatever it is they believe in, that’s fine with me.

You can be a pessimist or an optimist. Or you can totally just stop caring about things. But do not tell others to do the same. To each his own. When somebody talks about change via charter change, do not tell him his idea is hollow and meaningless. Yes, To you it may seem meaningless. It is also possible that you are right. But just let him be. He is free to think that way.

You can express your opinion as well. But never tell the other guy that his opinion is meaningless. Although I have disagreements with some of your ideas, I will never tell you that they are hollow and meaningless. Because they are not. Your ideas may be right or they may also be wrong. But they are never meaningless. Give every person the chance to express his opinion without telling him that it is useless and hollow. That’s my point, Mr. Pontaoe, pure and simple.

Mr. Sison,

In my own way, it’s the only analogy that I can compare the Philippines though cataclysmic. That’s how the country has turned to; in a black hole of irrationality where possibilities are not only limited but we can assume nothing. To Filipinos who loved her and have their lives and fortunes attached to it could be devastating. And to those… like me… who give up on this trend of governance, which dropped all hopes for change, is irrevocable.

Being an optimist in a very tight and losing predicament is alright. Your option. The situation is dire. You couldn’t cover it up. What other posters are saying all along is true, the bird’s eye view on the plight of the Philippines’ nosedive to oblivion.

Enlighten the Forum, Mr. Sison. What kind of dream and vision would apply? Is it like a ghost passing in the wind? Look at those politicians… e.g. Arroyo and the rest of them…the visions and dreams they promised the Filipino. What happened? Tell us, Mr. Sison, were these lofty dreams and visions fulfilled? You should know more than me you live there.

Frankly, if you believe in those promises and visions given by Filipino politicians, its money you would not deposit in a bank…money you cannot go shopping with. Why? Counterfeit. Among this mishmash of politics illustrious Filipinos with dedication to public service exist.

Take Mayor Braganza of Alaminos. His shunning of the public light does not mean to say he’s a defeatist. He’s running away from politics is of disgust and the conclusive determination that being in service is dishonorable and dishonest. One of many giving it up who can make a difference in the lives of the people. To those who are in it are in for the killing.

You said it most articulately, “You’ll not drown without first trying to swim”. It’s a beauty. The ship sunk and in the whirlpool you get sucked down whether you can swim or not. Death is a coming. Anyway, pessimism is not defeatism, Mr. Sison. Pure and simple.
