Thoughts to ponder about GMA

Mr. Delfin, wow, what a captivating piece that you wrote dated Feb. 7th? Show proof of unfairness? Look who is talking about fairness.

Sometime last year, Mr. Delfin said to Edwin, “Wake up and smell the coffee. Maybe in your dreams Arroyo will be the greatest president the Philippines ever had, right? That’s about it though, only in your dreams. Some people are singing their praises of her being a U.S. trained economist although after years of being the president, she has zip, zero, nada to show for. Edwin, the woman is an incompetent, has no leadership or managerial skills and she couldn’t even probably run a McDonalds or 7-11 franchise. So you may not feel too bad, I will also add that most of the so called political leaders in the Philippines are just as incompetent and corrupt.”

In comparison, it is very interesting to note the observation of Mr. Joey Concepcion about President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the Philippines. In Ask Go Negosyo, The Philippine Star, 01/11/2007, he said, “PGMA is just like any other person who has strengths and weaknesses, but I can say that PGMA does possess what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in her role in leading the nation as its Chief Executive Officer, and building an enterprising culture among Filipinos. It is very important for the CEO to be enterprising and instill that kind of culture in the organization. The Philippines Inc. is and should be run like a corporation. Its shareholders are the Filipinos, its operations managers are the executive branch and its board of directors are basically two sets: the senators and congressmen. It would be ideal to have only one set of board of directors, like in a corporation, as it can speed up and facilitate the discussions that would lead to faster decision-making for a more progressive Philippines Inc. If the structure is too heavy, where you have two separate bodies who act as the board of directors, this will ultimately slow down the organization. The reason young and smaller corporations are able to rise faster is that decisions are made quicker with less bureaucracy. Some say that is the main reason why Singapore and other Asian countries have accelerated as fast as they did. In line with this, we must also do our share as Filipino citizens.”

Talking about fairness and truthfulness, which of the above two contradicting opinions do you think makes more sense, truthful, believable or acceptable? I do not know about you but I think it is totally ridiculous to insinuate that PGMA or anybody else for that matter could not even run a McDonald or 7-11 franchise.

Furthermore, I think it is unfair to take a broad view that political leaders in the Philippines are incompetent and corrupt without concrete proof or evidence to pinpoint specifically who are incompetent and corrupt and who are not. To unjustifiably taint the reputations of political leaders in general, it is completely unfair to the past, present and future political leaders and public servants who were, who are and who will be competent and honest. It is no different to the nursing exam held last year where few examinees cheated. The fiasco tainted the integrity of the whole Philippine nursing profession. It is completely unfair to those who never cheat in the exam. Sooner or later, most Filipinos, especially the silent majority, will be able to discern the truth and will become politically and spiritually matured to make more realistic and intelligent observations like Mr. Concepcion and other Filipinos who can unselfishly and responsibly share their wisdom to educate others. I wish it will be soon enough so that Filipinos can make intelligent decisions during elections in order that our hopes and dreams for our beloved country and its people will come true instead of having national nightmares.

Just an opinion, foods for your thoughts to ponder.
