Show proof of unfairness

Jess Delfin
7 Feb 2007

To Mr. James Fernandez,
I totally
agree with a person’s right to make a fool out of himself. Your comment about Ms. Visperas draws the line. You made so many accusations yet COULD NOT offer a single proof to the contrary. At times like this, I wish the person in charge of posting the Forum comments should exercise his/her discretion not to post yours.

What Ms. Visperas did was to write in her column what had transpired and she has several sources to back it. Why don’t you prove that what she wrote about is not true instead of accusing her of being unfair? What you accused her of appears to be a figment of your imagination. If nothing else, Ms. Visperas should be commended.

Ms. Ric

You have balls Mr. Delfin. (Pardon the pun.) Despite my not having problems with capital punishment, I do have reservations when it comes to being responsible for turning the switch or delivering the final blow. It’s easy enough for you and I to say that anyone who doesn’t know who or what they’re voting for is better off staying home.

But our common Filipino voter’s reality back home most likely involves a wife at home expecting the seventh child, and where his 200 pesos daily wage, IF he’s lucky, doesn’t stretch that far. He doesn’t get out much and he’s easily enticed by a BIG supot with lots of goodies and maybe an envelope with some cash inside. If he chooses to run all the way to the polls and casts his vote in favor of that knight uttering the very same ideals he’s been craving for, how in the world can you fault him? On, pangaskasian ya talaga so bilay to.

What really riles me up about this whole voting scheme are the people in charge of keeping the legitimacy of this most basic principle of democracy. It is illegal to buy votes, and COMELEC is supposed to be the watchdog. When these knights buy votes, they’re not just buying one or two votes. One would think they can gather enough evidence to null and void an elected officials claim to glory if cheating is involved. But wait, there’s already a precedence set from the highest level, right?

Ms. Eva Visperas,

Why are you always attacking the good governor? Please be fair in publishing your comments. We don’t believe in everything you write. Salamat.
