Feel happy expressing it

Vicky Nepomuceno Carrera
26 August 2006

Ms. Ric,
If my posting sounded like I was whining or complaining, maybe I was, and maybe it is because of what I see around the city. Yes, you are correct. The city has so much to offer to everyone, only if the leaders will at least try to really do their jobs and deliver their promises or at least they serve with good intentions that are to help the people. I know am just one small voice and there are louder voices up there and still some people refuse to listen. My point is, I feel happy that at least l tried to express my opinion.
I do come back here (Pang.) often sometimes every year or twice a year. Guam is just a little more than 3 hours from the Philippines and so it is easy for us to just hop on the plane and visit our relatives, get a yearly physical check up, or just to come and enjoy the luxury our country has to offer like the R & R that we mostly need after a year of stress due to demand from the work we do. For me, it is almost like a permanent stay and not just a visit. After 32 years away from our mother country, part of us (Jerry and me) still longed to be home. Hopefully when Jerry will finally decide to limit his Engineering practice in Guam, he and I will try to venture on a different field when he comes home (Phil). He is doing his research and experiments on farming and hopefully will help our farmer kababayans.
Ms. Ric, when you visit our city next time, give me a call. We will both go and visit some sites around our province. By the way, Thanks and Good Day.

Those ‘kwentong kutcheros’

Edener Benitez Fabella
26 August 2006

Oh my gash who’s dunnnnit? Not us Petron says. All we did was have our oil shipped. Manigas na kayong lahat we will not pay a cent for damages. Not us either says Capitan of tanker Solar 1. Ano kami sira? Gugustuhin ba naming mabisto we sailed on expired mariner’s license and banned single hull tanker dehins noh? Screw you! bakit pati ako na nananahimik dito sa palasyo enjoying my bottle of cognac sisisihin n’yo? Bahala kayo sa buhay n’yo. If there is anyone to blame, it is the Guimaras folks who rely too much on fishing and tourism for livelihood. It’s time to switch to Beerhouses and KTV’s for crying out loud. What about the Philippine Coast Guard? Not us that’s for sure. All we have aboard our crafts are walis tambo and walis tingting anong kasalanan namin dyan?

If there is one thing besides Filipinos standing tall with their dignity intact despite rumbling empty stomachs is our ability to have fun by way of kwentong kutcheros. Have you heard of this one? One day by accident, someone recognized Ninoy Aquino in a busy thoroughfare downtown. The kargador asked; “Sir, mabuti naman at kahit papano naisipan mong bumalik dito sa Pinas but why the brown bag over your head Sir? Alam mo kasi Gorio, medyo mas takot ako ngayon keysa noon umalis ako tungong Amerika. Bakit nga kasi, Sir? Noon umalis ako, isang magnanakaw lang ang naghahari-harian dito sa atin pero ngayon, dito pa lang sa airport nadukutan na ako e ano pa kaya kung mapadako ako sa direksion tungong Malacanang?”

Soon our hero the favored major general in the AFP expert in making people disappear will retire. I suggest with his business acumen, he will do well in the service of his country if he is appointed secretary of finance! Imagine, in one fell swoop, everyone has cedulas in Bulacan, Tarlac, Pampanga and some parts of Ilocos? We know that even dead folks get to vote in our election but this feat tops it all. Even youngsters now are in love with their cedulas kaya tuloy pati itong Dagupan city dads natin gustong pagkakitaan ang poste nang kuriente? Any more brilliant ideas? Here’s one; why not initiate a ‘toilet flush’ meter? Just when some of our kababayans are getting used to knowing what that bowl is for, with every ‘flush- kaltas’ policy, it will surely bring them back to the bushes!

Discussing religion in a proper forum

Jose Ceralde
26 August 2006

Mr. Oriel,
I totally agree with you discussing religion and Christianity in the environment you outlined in the first paragraph of your 25 August posting. I participate in my cousin’s Christian forum who is a US Naval Officer. I’ll be glad to forward the site to you and learn from your insight offline and in his forum. As you know this site is his own as officially DOD has limitations on religious expression.

In line of history’s lesson, aren’t the Jihadist and Ayatolahs mullahtrocracy of today following the same path Christians nations when they had full kingdoms to rule? They wanted full religious control of their people and export it overseas. Wasn’t the Spanish flag planted in the Philippines in the name of God and Spain? Just remembered a fellow activist during the ’70s in California reading how” Roosevelt proudly proclaims to rule the Philippines to Christianize it after 300 years of Spanish Catholic rule.” Just tidbits of religious beliefs that we students of history could learn and discuss in the appropriate forum lest we bore and annoy disinterested people in the Sunday Punch forum.
