490 kilo-dynamited fish seized in city

MARKET DENIAL

AT least 14 boxes of styrofoam containing 490 kilos of dynamited “galunggong”, were seized by the police during a market “denial” operation Tuesday at the Magsaysay fish market in Dagupan City.

P/Supt. Edgar Basbas, police chief here, said the operation was conducted by his men along with elements of the Regional Maritime Police.

He said the operation was launched due to numerous reports he received that dynamited fish were being sold in the city.

The confiscated dynamited fish were valued at P44,000.

Arrested by the police during the operation was Artemio Torricer, 47, driver of the truck loaded with dynamited fish, and a resident of Puro, Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.

Torricer revealed the fish belonged to one Vicky Macayano, who eluded arrest.

Torricer is now facing a case for violation of Republic Act 8559 which prohibits sale of illegally caught fish. — AQL
