Martial law? Only in a state emergency

Edwin, you caught me off guard with your last post. Let’s set aside all those human rights violations that Marcos committed (there’s not enough time in a day if you get me started on this) and just concentrate on this martial law business that you seem to be endorsing. Today’s marital law is given, i.e. Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Korean Peninsula, Syria, oh yes, let’s not forget Lebanon and Israel. Did I forget any? Without going into details which will make me sound like a madwoman let me just list a few notorious nightmares: Tianenmen Square – Li Peng of China, Banda Aceh in Indonesia, Solidarity in Poland, that 2-28 massacre - Koumintang, Taiwan which you seemed to have forgotten when you endorsed Chang Kai Chek. Those two other giants, Mao and Hitler - I remember lamenting on one of them in the past.

In estate of emergencies, i.e. Katrina, 9/11, yes, martial law could be an answer, but to live with it day in and day out? C’mon, you and I would not have the luxury of this forum under martial law. Ermin and his colleagues would be marionettes, and Sunday Punch would just be another propaganda. Do you really want to go there?
