I hate to rain on your parade Mr. Duque, but taking any credit for these three “topnochers” because they came from your institution is a little misleading. And I might as well include Dr. Duque taking credit for the two “topnotchers” from his institution. Looking at the statistics published, the national passing rate is 42% (17,821/42,0060). LNU’s passing rate is 35% (236/681), and UPang’s passing rate is 41% (162/398). LNU’s numbers show that about three out of nine passed, but six out nine failed. UPang’s numbers are a tad better, but both statistics are nothing to be jumping about.Far be it from me to be telling you, Mr. Duque, how to run your university, but I do have relatives and friends who graduated from LNU and UPang, passed Phil. Board Exam, came to California, and had a hard time passing the California Board Exam. Their gripe is almost the same: they lack the edge to compete with the examinees who studied in the states. They claim that the practicum doesn’t even come close to what they were exposed to back home. This might be something to look at as far as the number of hours and quality of internship AND actual job placement prior to passing the exam.
By the way, whoever coined the phrase “top ten finisher” is also misinformed. There were 70 individuals who came in at the top ten percentile.
Don’t get me wrong, these five individuals: San Diego, Sotelo, Abalos, Mayo, and Aquino are indeed to be honored. They achieved something a few of us can only dream of - coming out at the top ten percentile of an esteemed assessment. Like Mr. Mendosa said, it’s the students who make the school. Congratulations!!!
