This is one commentary I dreaded writing. For starters, it will uncover my century secret that will embellish an equally old fable of General Yamashita’s treasure to third billings. Tila sabi nang mga kababaihan “masisira ang beauty ko” but like General Custer stance, it’s a dirty job but someone’s got to do it!

Here goes. I consider myself fortunate having been around during Apu Pidiong’s reign (the late president Elpidio Quirino) in Malacanang. I was still a young kid having no inkling about many things specially the nuts and bolts of government. About the only scandal I can recall of this president was his luxurious bedroom set including a prized ‘arinola’. If we take that scandal as a measuring cup and compare it with today’s piranha type’s marauders of the nation’s piggy bank, Apu Elpidio is a pure saint. Siguro di pa masyadong uso noon ang kissamyass kissayoass kaya ayun hanggang mamahaling porcelain arinola lang ang nakulimbat! Ay katawan ni.

Then came ‘The Guy’ he was a president Filipinos loved and truly respected. Ask Taruc and Hadji Kamlon and they will tell you - yeah we got whupped badly but he was fair, firm and more importantly - not corrupt. By golly, he even drove himself in an old McArthur jeep for crying out loud? Imagine seeing the ‘Guy’ driving around Avenida Rizal and told by many the family used to frequent Ideal theatre without a phalanx of security men holding everyone hostage while they see a movie?

Contrast that with today’s rascal who cannot even deliver his ‘pan de sal’ without 16,000.+ police and military manpower guarding her nakakahiya di ba? Baka akala nang CNN at MSNBC me graduation nang Malacanang elementary school.

I think succeeding presidents after Monching Magsaysay i.e, Caloy P. Garcia, Dado Macapagal, Ferdie Marcos filtering to the latest, we Filipinos got introduced to pretty words like; ‘gutter’, filth and stench to name a few. Never in my memory, however, where the art of kissamyass kissayoass ever been so perfected by this current palace occupant. She is the best when it comes to proving who’s da best mamasan. Mapapahiya si Matahari sa lagayan and she isn’t even cute. I suppose her ‘quen leon quen tigre eko tatakut’ send shivers down the generals spineless guts. Have billions will travel yo madam mamasan.

Moral here is; we are not a corrupt people as a choice. We are just a people who are confused in electing leaders whom we can depend upon in removing the terrible stigma at the same time we are weaning ourselves from words like stench, filth and corruption. We must work harder every election time so we will be great, honest and corrupt free society once again.
