Joint landfill proposed for three towns

TAYUG - After being sanctioned for the clandestine operation of a dumpsite, the municipal government has initiated a move to construct a common sanitary landfill to serve Tayug and the neighboring towns of San Nicolas and Natividad.

Mayor Carlos Trese Mapili said he already proposed two possible sites for the landfill but both were rejected by the EMB because these are near residential houses.

Vice Mayor Madelyn Cabotaje said the SB will help the mayor find the proper location for the landfill project.

Mayor Mapili proposed the project after the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources ordered the municipal government to remove the town’s open dump site down a creek in barangay Barangobong.

Left with no other alternative site for the landfill, Mapili now seeks the help of neighboring towns that may have an acceptable site so they can build a landfill for their common use.

Mapili said Tayug will be ready to contribute its financial share for the construction of the landfill and to pay its obligations for dumping garbage in the proposed common facility.

The EMB discovered Tayug’s open dumpsite inside the creek when they investigated the complaints of the Sangguniang Bayan against Excel Farm for dumping its wastes in the area.
