Are we waiting for the Americans and others again to save our OFW’s?It is reassuring knowing in Israel, citizen’s life is valued that if threatened, the state has no compunction of leveling any country to rubbles for their transgression. OFW’s predicament in Lebanon is anathema to Filipinos worldwide compliment of incompetent governance. While their lives are in peril due to renewed war between Lebanon and Israel, its leader went partying in Brunei and hobnobbing in Libya. When it finally dawned on her the perilous situation our modern heroes are stuck in, she sent an amateur roving ambassador instead of immediately chartering vessels to ferry our citizens to safer grounds. The roving ambassador suggested a Philippine flag is placed on areas where our OFW’s are converging awaiting mercy from countries that could accommodate them. Yes, when an incoming bomb or missile see a Philippine flag, it’ll explode somewhere else. The country’s top leader also pleaded to Israel and Hezbollah to please not to harm our citizens! Good Lord! What have we done to ourselves?
It has become routine for our pathetic leaders relying on international assistance whenever a crisis affect the country and people. The Leyte tragedy is testament of our government’s lack of direction and preparedness. It seems government machinery is only good at protecting an absolute failure. A leader who cannot deliver a state of a nation address unless guarded by 14,000 thousand policemen has a serious problem indeed.
It is time Filipinos demand more from their government. Apathy is lethal even more so when their dignity and civil rights are slowly eroded by people whose reputation are no better than crocodiles, sharks and leeches of the animal kingdom.
When will we wake up?
