The assumption that mails coming from the US during the holiday season or at any given time, a mail with a US return address is most inviting to an inquiring eye because the Filipino attitude of inserting an amount.

As a matter of fact, it’s proven time and again that any pilferage occurring in the sorting facilities of the Philippine Postal Service were never investigated. Almost everybody in those joints are into it.

Let me backtrack 15 years ago. The benevolence of the Filipino in sending boxes back home laden with goodies to their families is well known. Those boxes landed when they reach Manila at the PPS building at Plaza Lawton off Escolta where they were opened and sorted to their destinations.

Gangs of thieves opened those boxes and took only items sellable in the streets. How can you comprehend a box sent from the US reaching the recipient after 3 to 5 months which supposedly in 4 weeks time? It’s unbelievable but true.

This thievery was later solved by the ingenuity of the people who provided the door to door service which until now is the most reliable transmittal of goods without losing it.

To send a package or an envelope to the Philippines, to have a peace of mind, is thru FDX or any private carrier that guarantees safe passage. These private companies are rigid in their performance. They are managed by Americans with high batting average in the delivery business.

And if you use the USPS do the smart way. Register the letter with return card. Create a paper record which you can trace. Nobody in his right mind will mess with it.
