Re: A Kabaleyan’s Thoughts…JDV? Ummm… JDV is deaf-mute as far as our language & literature is concerned. In fact, all the Pangasinan politicians are. I met him once in one of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation meetings somewhere in Makati. I was about to talk to him about the current state of Pangasinan language & literature… bangta inapangat dan tampol kanian ag ko la nibesngaw so pegdat ko. I gave up already trying to get in touch with him. I'll leave that to people who have connections.
As for the Governor, he's supportive of the "visual" artists but not the literati & intellectuals.
A FOUNDATION is a very good suggestion, Lucky Joe. The Cebuanos have the Cebuano Studies Center, Kapampangans have the Nepomuceno and the Bicolanos have the Arejola Foundation. Dia'd Pangasinan, ANGGAPO!
Currently, there's only one or two Pangasinan writers (mansusulat ed salitan Pangasinan) based here in Manila and there are few "old oaks" left in our beloved Luyag.Yes, Pangasinan language is vanishing. Did you know that even the youth in Sta. Barbara, Calasiao, San Carlos, Malasique, Dagupan and Lingayen prefer to converse in Filipino/Tagalog nowadays?
Tan sikayo 'ran oala'd biek-taew natan nayarin die-hard Pangasinenses kayo bangta saray ilalak yo balet ey? Amta da kasi so man-Pangasinan?
Oala'y anem a libon salita/lingguahi natan ed lapag a mundo. Kapaldua ed sarayan lingguahi so oala la ed tambib na kabalang ed arapen a 50-100 a taon. Sakey so salitan Pangasinan ya akalista ed kapalduan nabalang.
