A nice website

Jose Ceralde
30 June 2006

Frank,

Nice website. Very simple and easy to navigate. Don’t have the overwhelming pop-up commercials yet.

Reading the founder history, I find something to relate to. We used to go on vacation annually to Goose Creek S.C. from Rome New York when my uncle Romy was stationed in Naval Station Charleston and lived there. I remember lots of Filipinos in the area jogging in the development.

I also remember the bountiful fish by the bridge and oysters. We used to bring coolers full of shrimp, fish and oysters. Is it still the same? Hopefully not like the bleak picture coming from Dagupan about Dawel and the coliform bacteria.

Coming from Bonuan our family had always relied on seafoods. In fact they still wholesale and retail our premiun “Bonuan Bangus” and “Lingayen Bagoong” here and abroad. Just as the Bangus picture captioned of current issue had said …..Brisk sale in Dagupan…. is also true in the the US; in Texas, California, New Jersey, and New York. It is even proudly branded “Bonuan Bangus”. Although “Sarangani ” brand is more common in the Asian stores. Hard to contest anything when sales is up.

Again, congratulations on a very nice website.

GMA is made in heaven!

Edener Benitez Fabella
29 June 2006

We believers better stay alert or will forever curse ourselves should we miss the mother of all miracles. Not too long ago Gloria Pidal Arrovo aka. Mekeni queen by the stinky Pasig River went to Vatican city to attend Pope John Paul’s necrological services. The next day, in a CNN interview, she claimed the late Pope approved her efforts in unseating Joseph Estrada. She is back in Vatican City to present a copy of the law repealing the country’s death penalty in her audience with Pope Benedict. She made a stunning claim the Pope approves of her efforts to change the country’s constitution and form of government. Witness to the meeting will happily attest to this including the Mekeni queen getting a pat on the back for a well done job. I hope Pope Benedict would be so kind enough to accept Gloria Pidal Arrovo’s invitation. I suggest without 3 or 4 stars PNP and AFP mooching generals tagging along, Let the Pope visit our jails and hospital charity wards. Let’s allow the Pope a perfect bird’s eye view of the situation and then he can truly decide if he might have erred saying Gloria Arrovo have done a good job. I am sure when the Pope sees the conditions how prisoners cope being housed in dingy filthy disease time bomb cells waiting to explode, maybe the Pope might say - let these people die with dignity. The rush to repeal the death penalty was again another ‘feel good’ for those in power. In reality, these hypocrites could care less if prisoners kill each other to reduced prison occupancy.

It won’t be long now. Just you wait. As soon as Gloria Pidal Arrovo is back, her spinmasters will confirm the 12 Christ Apostles will come down to earth to join her ChaCha train. Some people without moral compass will take a no prisoner stance to promote their evil ways regardless. Summing it up, a beloved Pope John Paul (deceased) was her shining knight against Estrada, A new Pope Benedict her saviour to fire up the Cha Cha train and the main attraction - the 12 Apostles gracing her triumph in trampling another impeachment. She is made in heaven and we Filipinos are so lucky having this Mekeni. I think we better buy brown bags big enough to cover our heads just make sure there’s a slot in case you feel like throwing up.

PAIDSTOG is PAID STOOGE

Eduardo Pontaoe
27 June 2006

How can Fama of PAIDSTOG claim the problem on illegal drugs is manageable when the conviction rate on these illegal drug pushers is nil?

Why create a government agency to police illegal drug activity when it carries no weight and power to enforce the laws?

The Filipino penchant for the acronym? Is it germane? That PAIDSTOG of Fama is tantamount to a PAID STOOGE of the government or a stool pigeon of the drug syndicate.

What is beyond comprehension being Fama lamenting the dismissal of cases against the accused? Because of mere technicalities and non-interest on the part of the complainant?

This is a shitty reasoning. Why? The complainant in these cases is the government with prosecutorial powers and unlimited time and resources to pursue the indictee.

Unless Fama dropped the indictments with the connivance of the “fiscal” the judge can’t do anything but to follow.

Enlisting the cooperation of the barangay officials is not only dicey but doozy. These people….let’s face the facts here…. are not courageous enough to put themselves into the grinder. With the strong arm of these druggists they can employ, these barrio people are just a spit in the bucket.

PAIDSTOG and Supt. Fama are products of a bureaucracy and a government gone awry.

Disgraceful. You bet.

GMA music to fight corruption

Jeremias Andrade Carrera
27 June 2006

Ombudsman’s Way of Fighting Corruption: Music will be used to eliminate graft and corruption as reported in the Philippine Star today (June 27, 2006). If plunder of 50 million pesos was considered a heinous crime punishable by death under the recently abolished death penalty law did not have any effect to stop corruption, what stupidity or joke is this idea that MUSIC is the simple answer to stop graft and corruption. So, the solution is very simple really. Ate Gloria will just SING and DANCE while she does her LABADA or laundering. She is going to spend 1 billion pesos to wipe out insurgency, and 1 billion pesos to stop graft and corruption through MUSIC. Maybe the military will also use MUSIC by serenading the insurgents to surrender. I am not sure if the Philippines is really composed of FANTASY ISLANDS and some of the people are in state of fantasy, or just plain stupid to allow such BOLA-BOLA pronouncement. As I have stated in my previous postings, Filipinos are law-abiding people if the GOVERNMENT OF THE COUNTRY WHERE THEY ARE SITUATED DO NOT TOLERATE AND ENFORCES THE LAWS. Press Secretary Bunye came to Guam last week and invited the Filipinos especially the retirees about the opportunities and amenities that the Philippines can offer such as dual citizenship, real estate, health care, to luxury lifestyle with their retirement money. The problem is that Ate Gloria is only starting to clean up, always. You do not invite visitors if you are just starting to clean up your house, instead, have a clean house that is always ready to receive visitors. Immigration Commissioner Al Fernandez did an excellent job to entice the retirees by reducing the dual citizenship fee, but unfortunately the other cabinet members and Ate Gloria are busy doing something else. The retirement business will become a big global business and the Philippines is an excellent retirement community since top health care facilities is available, but peace and order, and graft and corruption are the problems that must be overcome first.

Just facts and truth

Victoria N. Carrera
27 June 2006

Contributions come in many forms. The contribution the reporters have for the readers are the reports they investigate and objectively write. It is not the obligation of the reporters to paint a pretty picture or place rose-colored glasses on the reader. Fact has always been the bedfellow of reporters. We should not encumber them to contribute anything less. We, as overseas readers, rely on their objective reporting most especially since they are witness to the “local” news and happenings. We rely on them so that we may know the truth…so that we may know the facts. Regardless of whether it seems like they are “hurling” anything at the “bigwigs and politicians”, facts are facts. Good things and bad things happen…but it’s the bad things that usually smell more - and therefore are noticed. In fairness, we also often read some positive news from our city and our province. When it comes to the Forum, posters have their own opinion and we are encouraged to write as long as we are within the Forum rules. So I say to the SUNDAY PUNCH - KEEP GOING AND GOING AND GOING….

Parking ordinance is asinine!

Ms. Ric
27 June 2006

It takes a lot to leave me speechless, but this parking ordinance did it, for a full minute. I have to admit that this is by far the most asinine idea I have ever heard! I have also refrained from getting on that bandwagon of name-calling (clowncilors?), but if this actually passes, then all bets are off. 80%, 16%, 4%? Nepotism at its finest!!!

If the city can afford to buy those streamers, they can certainly afford to hire a couple of meter maids. They can sub-contract a towing company, and to top if off they should get councilor Samson to paint those curbs!

Priest is not fighting jueteng

Consuelo Garcia
27 June 2006

To Archbishop Oscar Cruz,

I’m just wondering why jueteng is still very much active in the city of San Carlos where your very much respected priest lives? Can’t you convince him to convince his community including his family not to engage in jueteng even in just being an instrument such as selling pampleto? Just asking.
