Stealing

Re: Stolen phone cables

When we were growing up, the word ’steal’ was relatively unknown and was not a pleasant venture to the few who were caught engaging in the business. Life in our country must really be going to the dogs that existing telephone cables and electric lines are not being spared? Officials must do more to contain this raging menace. Otherwise, before we know it, thieves will be stealing anything that moves and has a name attached to it. Perhaps it is time we do what they do in Saudi Arabia whenever someone is caught stealing. In the old west, it was said; ranchers and lawmen organize posses to go after cattle rustlers. As the story goes, the consequence of getting caught was an ugly affair. I am sure the bleeding hearts in our society will be up in arms to think there are people like me so callous to advocate we start stringing thieves to the nearest acacia tree. What do you suggest then we do? Thieves no longer fear getting caught. It is even rumored the reason we have rampant thievery is due to government officials benefiting from it. With lootings going on in government which is deemed part of being in power, I suppose it is safe to assume there maybe some truth to it. But then that’s just me. What about you?

Clean water & poverty

Lea,

You see laziness where I see the opposite. The good thing is we all want clean water and environment. The UN Population said the Philippines had made strides in health, education, and thus a 27 years improvement in the life expectancy since pre-refrigeration days. Increased activities lead to increased unabated population growth which led to dense cities and towns. Leading to the poor urban conditions, due to should we agree poor planning of the officials who haven’t started checking the house since 1940?If we discount the relation of poverty to water borne disease then we might be remiss in the studies done on the subject. Ms. Ric was on track on the studies of life expectancy and you are also right of the need to act because the power of government to move people by influence is a good first step. There are just some people that could move people like Eric Lachica of the ACFV. If you need info on him, type his name in the search engine and you’ll read his success in having the 109th senate pass a bill last week for our Filipino Veterans. Surely we have leaders that could use these types during times of very limited resources.
