Re: Feelings
Emmanuelle, had I not found your piece entertaining, I would have been really insulted by your perception of what a math teacher looks and acts like. Let’s start agreeing and disagreeing already…
Math is life itself: if by this statement, you mean that math is made up of rules, functions, defined and undefined terms, and logic, then yes math is life and life is math.
Life is predictable: not quite, more like a non-linear chaos or shall we say ordered chaos, but this of course depends on what variables you have, x or y?
Now let’s do the math. On this documented case - which I’m taking at its face value - its probability is highly possible. Let’s assign labels shall we? Let Paul-86, and Mary-80, yr-old siblings, and Peter-58 and Anna-55 yr-old siblings. There’s also a third set of terms – the real and only son. He’s our unknown. Paul and Mary claim to be the children of Tatay, the person who left all the inheritance. Peter and Ana claim to be Tatay’s great grandchildren. If Paul is 86 and Peter is 58, then the minuends 86 and 58 give us a difference of 28. Now take 28 and apply the divisor 2, the quotient is 14. Let’s go back and double check. From Tatay to Paul/Mary to unknown to Peter/Anna – that’s four generations. Then is it possible for Paul who’s 86 to have a 58-yr-old grandson, Peter? It’s highly possible, that at 14, Paul had a son, our unknown, and that his son, also at 14, had Peter. So you see, algebraically speaking, Paul/Mary = Peter/Anna. The inheritance should be divided in half, if and only if, DNA, a statiscian, and a darn good lawyer are applied on both sides.
No, I did not miss the point. Looking forward to next week’s installment.

Re: Punchline
Mr. Ermin Garcia:
If the City Health Office confirms that it is ok to have coliform bacteria in our rivers, I am not surprised at all because, not only in our city that we see meat, fish, eggs, prepared food being sold in the streets without refrigeration or warming device. Anybody can sell any kind of food without going through some kind of training for handling food safely. What’s wrong with our country? Do we just stick to our famous “Bahala na” saying? I still believe that if only we would all come together, we will make a big difference in our city. This Sunday Punch could be playing a big role.

Re: Jueteng using lotto as cover
Jueteng in Dagupan has not resurfaced yet? I dunno but it is alive and well in barangay Mayombo where I was last Sunday. Jueteng collectors are just more discreet, especially as they announce the winning numbers.

Mr. Mendoza, you mentioned Teody Lalas on your column. His late brother Veegee was a former manager at RB Itogon Inc. Kindly give my regards to Teody.

Re: Punchline
Saludo ako sa tapang ni Mr. Ermin Garcia, Jr. I was chuckling as I was going thru his piece. Naisip ko, hayan, nakatagpo kayo ng katapat. Akala naman kasi ng mga nasa posisyon most people are literally begging for neurons. Na lahat puwedeng daanin sa semantics, word play at palabok. Go get ‘em, Mr. Garcia. Nasa likod mo kaming mga Dagupeños.

Re: Business Log
I had a chance to go to Alaminos City and received a very warm welcome by the good people of Alaminos. To me, Alaminos is a city of friendly people. Mayor Braganza has been terrific in running the city. Unfortunately, the mayor’s name is being tainted by some of his staff, some people he trusted to run the city. This is giving the mayor a bad image.

The crux of the problem here, which I would like to ask Mayor Braganza is, why hire a person like Panabang to be the city administrator when he doesn’t have the right attitude and capability to act as one?
What you have seen was the imprudence and complete disregard of decorum which this former soldier thought he can wield with and not answerable to nobody. He looked at you when you were before him like the non-commissioned ass-kissing peons of lowly soldiers whom he can manipulate.
People of this training, those military inculcatations, these practitioners of horse blinders are not supposed to be in a position where common sense and outward approach to the people is the norm.
And, if there was such necessity to replace Ernesto Malay, why not hire a person of your own kind and not a failed mayoral candidate from the Ilocos whose mentality is not suited to the Pangasinense?
And to you, Mayor Braganza, are there not enough capable people of Alaminos to be your administrator who understands the words… public service?

I typed in coliform and the search engine I have at home came back with 173 hits. Do you mean to tell me If I wanted to “catch” someone plagiarizing a paper, I have to scroll and sift through all 173 entries? And if I have 150 papers to check, that’s … No thanks.

Wonder if the new elected vice president of the United Methodist church Jaime Nabua is one of my best friends and fraternity brothers that I haven’t seen for almost 30 yrs. I really appreciate if punch can tell him to email me his phone no. or email address. Thanks and more power to punch that I can’t wait to read the next issue every week!
