Reward for capture of game cock thieves set

Fed up with being the favorite victim of game cock thieves, Vice Gov. Oscar Lambino put up a P10,000 reward for what could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
Lambino, one of the biggest game cock raisers and breeders in Pangasinan, said he put up the reward to help put a stop to the disappearance of prize game cocks and deter more thievery in the future.
While the bounty came from his personal funds, Lambino said he is not the only breeder being victimized by thieves but other big game cock raisers and breeders in Pangasinan as well.
Among the most prominent breeders who also lost fighting cocks to thieves were former Sto. Tomas Mayor Antonio Villar, Jr., his cousin Provincial Board Member Dionisio Villar, and Tito de Venecia, younger brother of Speaker Jose de Venecia, Jr., who owns a gamecock farm in Manaoag.
A report said that although stealing of game cocks is now becoming more rampant like cattle rustling, the police has not arrested nor identified any suspect to date.
One game cock thief, however, was shot dead in the farm of de Venecia, by a security guard who caught the suspect in the act of stealing fowls.
Lambino called PUNCH from his residence in Malasiqui to report the latest caper last Wednesday dawn. He said it was the seventh time he lost fighting cocks to unidentified thieves under cover of the night.
He said the latest caper happened in his cock farm in Barangay Bolosan, Dagupan City where he lost 16 cocks, each one fetching prices from P10,000 to P20,000. It was the third time the thieves struck in that farm
He said his farm house in Malasiqui was also pilfered by thieves three times and also lost some fighting cocks in his farm house in Calasiao.
Lambino, who is not a cockpit habitu_ but raises and breeds fighting cocks only as a business, admitted he already lost more than 100 fighting cocks to the thieves.
He strongly suspects that a big syndicate is behind the game cock thievery because it would take some resources to transport these game cocks at one time. LM
