Curfew for tots up in Alaminos

ALAMINOS-A curfew for minors is now being enforced here to remove  children from harm’s way.

This is provided for in a newly approved city ordinance seeking to ensure that minors are confined to   their homes during the wee hours of the night till next morning.

The city council said the ordinance was enacted in response to the clamor of parents to get minors off the streets at night,  to protect  them   from accidents, vices and       or   other        illegal activities.

Section 2 of the ordinance states that it shall be unlawful for any minor person staying late at night outside the premises of   their  residences  beginning 9:00 p.m. to 5:00  a.m. for minors aged 12 years and below and from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for minors aged 18 years and below.

There is, however, an exception to this, like when the minors are accompanied by parents, guardians, elders, peace officers, city and barangay officials.

Appropriate fines and penalties would be imposed upon parents or guardians whose children are caught violating the ordinance.

Defending the ordinance, the city council said  the curfew  won’t deprive the minors of their rights, responsibilities and benefits as this is only intended to maintain peace and order and  provide  them a wholesome life. B.D. Ochave, correspondent
