METRO Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando shared with Dagupan City what discipline can do to transform  the place into a “super-clean, super-striving and well-ordered urban community.”

Speaking before barangay captains and officials at the city museum, Fernando  said: “The keyword is discipline and we have to use it right  at our work places if we are to grow as a nation”.

This is the same keyword that must be asked of the citizens for them to become more responsive and productive in any chosen endeavor, said Fernando who was a three-term mayor of  Marikina City.

Fernando told Mayor Benjamin Lim that during his first three years in office, he faced strong resistance from his constituents because they  did not like his demolition and construction projects.

“I did not budge an inch even if they staged rallies against me, I even welcomed court suits”, he said.

He revealed he fought back in more than 100 court cases and survived the ordeal to eventually win the plum in urban development.

Turning to  Mayor Lim,  Fernando  urged  his host to go full-speed ahead and ignore the petty criticisms hurled against meaningful public servants.

“We don’t have to be bothered by the catcalls of jealous detractors or by  threats of market and sidewalk vendors, Fernando said, adding that the same “are not the real pulse that will make you win in an election.”

The market vendors, however, pointed out that they filed a case against Mayor Lim not for removing them from the sidewalks but for failing to present a feasibility study to justify the planned construction of a four-story building in lieu of the existing market.
