LINGAYEN—The provincial jail warden in Pangasinan blamed the escape of a notorious drug pusher under their custody last Thursday on the  lack of personnel and official service vehicle.

Provincial Warden Felimon Doria said Jimmy Daru, alias Jimmy Lumna could not have escaped had there been adequate number of jail guards who escorted him to  the hearing of his case before the Regional Trial Court in Dagupan City.

Only Roberto Capacio escorted Daru, a  notorious drug pusher from whom 240 grams of shabu was confiscated by elements of the Traffic Management Group last November 24 in Lingayen.

The two commuted from Lingayen to Dagupan in the early morning of Thursday because the provincial jail had only one service  vehicle that was earlier assigned to another  jail guard escorting  another prisoner.

Although Daru’s case in Lingayen is unbailable, he was not escorted well when he attended the trial of his other case for illegal possession of prohibited drugs before the RTC in Dagupan.

Before he was arrested by TMG personnel led by Superintendent David Rapisora, Daru was first  nabbed  in Dagupan sometime in July in Malued, Dagupan City after a car chase. He managed to post  a bail.

Daru’s escape happened after they came out of the justice hall when he asked that he be brought to the adjacent Tondaligan amphitheatre to be able to   call up somebody in the jail clearly with better signal from his cellphone.

Doria could not explain why Daru was allowed to use a cell phone inside and outside the jail.

One of  the 3 persons he called them was later identified as Daru’s son by the name Kadir, later approached them and  pointed  his handguns at Capiso.

Capiso  disarmed and was pushed into a room of a house at the Muslim settlement area where he was locked and hand-cuffed. However, he managed to free himself and reported the matter to the police in Bonuan.

Capacio is now under investigation by Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine Baniqued. He earlier denied he conspired with Daru and let him escape.

Provincial Attorney Virgilio Solis said there is a possibility Capacio let Daru escape because there was no commotion that was made whatsoever when  the suspect was taken from his custody.

He said  all indications point to the fact that Daru got away so easily, thus indicating   the guard might  have been remiss  in his duty. –APE
