Jueteng in new tack on the upsurge here

LINGAYEN—Happy days are here again for the jueteng lords and their protectors from the government, police and even the media.
This has become apparent with the come-back of jueteng almost everywhere, from the usual guerilla-type months ago to the now organized table type covering clusters of towns.
But wait till after Archbishop Oscar Cruz, founder of the Krusada ng Bayan-Jueteng-Free Philippines, shall have finally released the result of the survey on jueteng in various towns and cities, where names of persons supposedly involved in jueteng may be included.
Jueteng has resurfaced even in Dagupan where Cruz is the chairman of a team created by Mayor Benjamin Lim tasked to monitor jueteng and other forms of illegal gambling.
Cruz is unfazed even if the jueteng lords have reportedly launched a below-the-built tactic to destroy and undermine his character through gossips and other means.
Police Chief Noli Taliño was quoted in a press release of the City Information Office as having said that he has “definite and strong orders” from Mayor Lim to stop once and for all any kind of illegal gambling in the city and to apprehend its operators and bet collectors.
It was learned that elements of the Task Force Jericho are now conducting raids in the province where there are known jueteng dens.
First raided by the task force was the town of Calasiao where it was finally confirmed that there are jueteng draws being held three times a day.
During the week, at least 21 jueteng collectors were arrested in two raids in Calasiao and a raid each in Labrador, Binmaley, Aguilar and Rosales.
All these raids reconfirmed once more that jueteng has bounced back with a vengeance.
A radio report stated that jueteng lords are dropping the name of a ranking police regional officer in order to get the support of mayors and police chiefs to their illegal operations.
Ike Palinar, newly elected president of the Pangasinan Press and Radio Club, has announced that the club is adopting a “no take policy” and warned members of the club to desist from being bagmen of jueteng lords.
Palinar announced the club’s policy in the wake of report that a jueteng lord from Batangas has taken over the jueteng operations in the entire province and that there were reports certain mediamen are again approaching him to broker pact between the operators and the mediamen.
Meanwhile, operators of “jueteng” in Tayug almost went bankrupt when a bettor won some P200,000 last Wednesday while their net collection that day was only around P80,000.
Jueteng stopped the next day to enable the operators to source out additional fund to pay the winning bettor in full. Obviously, they were able to raise money and pay the lucky bettor because last Friday “jueteng” was on again.
