ASINGAN—Regional Trial Court Judge  Oscar  ‘Gary’ Uson of Branch 52  was killed in an ambush by two motorcycle-riding men along the Narciso R. Ramos bridge  between Asingan and Sta. Maria towns, between 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., on his way home to Urdaneta City from work

SPO2 Marlon Pesalbo, investigator of the Asingan  police, said Judge Uson was alone, driving his own maroon-colored Mercedez  Benz when he was fired  upon by two men riding tandem in a motorcycle. He died on the spot from  two gun shot wounds, one below his left ear and  another, on the  left  shoulder.

After shooting Uson, the gunmen sped towards Asingan town and probably towards Urdaneta City or Binalonan.  Pesalbo initially ruled out the possible involvement of the New People’s Army in the ambush-slaying .

Chief Inspector Ricardo    Revita,     group commander of the l07th Police Mobile Group, said he was on his way to Tayug from San Roque,  San Manuel when he passed by the car of Judge Uson with his body still inside it.

He said the incident is now being investigated by the Asingan police although his unit is extending assistance for the early apprehension of the suspects who, he said, could be possibly hired killers.

Investigators are now eyeing on revenge over an unfavorable decision rendered by Judge Uson upon certain defendants charged before the latter’s  sala.

Judging from the way the ambush was executed, it would appear that the killers are professionals, Revita said as he mobilized his men to assist in the investigation of the case.

Inspector Diosdado Ginez of the Sta. Maria police, one of those who responded to the incident, said the gun men evidently opened fire as soon as Judge Uson slowed down while his car  was negotiating a sharp curve along the bridge.  He said he learned from some people that the gun men fired five times but only two bullets appeared to have fatally hit the judge.

The police investigators theorized that the suspects aboard a motorcycle might have been trailing  Judge Uson from his office.

Before he was promoted RTC Judge in Tayug, Judge Uson was an assistant  prosecutor in Pangasinan where he received a lot of threats on his life after handling  the prosecution of Ramon  Navarro, founder of the notorious Agila Gang’ in Alaminos.

As a result of his successful prosecution, Navarro and his cohorts were sent to jail and may still be serving their sentences at the National Penitentiary in Muntinlupa City. The case against Navarro was decided by RTC Judge Jules Mejia.

Before becoming a lawyer, Judge Uson worked with the Development Bank of the Philippines. He also was a  hard-hitting columnist of the defunct  Dagupan Tribune and had his stint as an announcer for  radio station DZWN.
