BINMALEY—This old man’s incredible will to survive continues to puzzle his children. He suffered a stroke 14 times to high blood pressure but still lives on. The hospital is like his second home as he has been "in and out" everytime he suffers stroke and most of the time, he is at the intensive care unit. For several times, he was given extreme unction, the sacramental rite of anointing the sick, reserved for those in danger of death. In fact, even with his fluctuating high blood pressure aggravated by a diabetes, he continues to enjoy life as he voraciously savors high-cholesterol and sweet foods. That’s Dr. Joaquin Ferrer, a dentist by profession who served as head of the dental department at the Department of Health in Region I.
